On "The Pat McAfee Show" Wednesday, new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said he won't adopt a fake southern accent like LSU coach Brian Kelly once did.

I think he’s done a remarkable job, tbh. We lost a couple of big names, but Bama should still have a Top 3 roster in the SEC by spring.
Oh, and he’s about to be 1-0 vs Reverend Hugh head to head.

He didn’t say that though. He was asked if he would adopt an accent like Kelly. He said, “I think that would go wrong for me”.

As a southerner and Cajun i still don’t hear any accent any time I listen to that video, DeBoer needs to focus on his depleting roster than other coaches…

Funny thing, though, I used to spend (sometimes) weeks at a time working in the Boston area, and I'll be damned if I wouldn't slip sometimes and say shite like chowdah or yahd.
I guess there's a reason actors will often do full immersion when taking on an accent for a role. The only accent it seems they don't do that for is "southern" because they think they know how it sounds. They are always wrong.
