Adapt, do you even understand what those threatening to sues goal was? They do not care about anything else but getting the money which is what builds the stadiums, that pays for all the other sports etc. etc. and giving it to young men who you then can not coach, or correct, or get on to, because they will threaten to go to another school.

People like you are clueless about what's coming. Within 10 years this sport will not be worth watching. I quit watching in 2020,I saw what was coming, I am a much bigger fan (or was) then 99 percent on here, both in Tuscaloosa, ca tell you every score from the 1920s on, Bama's 1925, 26, 30 and 34 teams went 39-0-1 in total winning 3 Rose Bowls and tying 1, outscoring opponents 1133 to 111, with 27 shutouts.

I was in trouble as a 13 year old youth, playing with fire we burn something like fools, or my buddy did, and the Judge who was a Bama grad couldn't believe I knew al the scores and stats and names of players from the 20s and 30s so he let me off with no probation, my buddy admitted it was him, but hell I set in the judges office all day, we became friends eve though he was in his late 40s until he died recently.

So, I now college football, and not just Bama, I have books on the history of football, how a president had to step in because it became so violent. How if 5 defenders could carry you back 20 yards, that is where you were down at, no forward progress, how you had to actually touch the football down in the end zone or you did not get a TD. The year the forward pass came in 1913.

So, I am a true fan, unlike most, I understand the value of a scholarship. Take away the scholarships and make them pay their own way, those threatening to sue would have sit down and shut up.

By the way, I heard this inside scoop because I have first cousins who work in the sports department. I said this 3 days ago on the Bama board and people thought I was crazy. I use LOGIC..........Why does a coach interview a WR coach in the morning and step down at night? Its obvious to me, and I do not blame coach Saban, I would deal with this BS either.

No one here will even care about CFB in 10 years, mark my words. Its become a JOKE.

Everyone is like "Oh its like the NFL now."

Its not at all like the NFL, the NFL has contracts.

2024 CFB is a professional sport without any contracts whatsoever and instant eligibility transfers.

People don't seem to understand the NCAA couldnt put this right if they wanted to because the courts told them they cant.

It's not going to change and its not going to get better, its going to play out to its natural conclusion:
1) Temporary bump in casual viewers as the big schools continue to pull away from the others bringing in people who want to sports bet on minor league NFL football
2) The current diehard fans bleed off as the free agency mess plays out
3) The sport turns into a regional sport with 25-50% of its current levels of support and partially empty stadiums all over the place

I think someone getting paid $10MM/yr doesn't have a lot of room to complain about the athletes getting a share of the pie.

Is the extreme capitalization of college football detrimental to the sport? Absolutely. But Jimmy Sexton and his clients are right in the thick of it.

Not trying to be antagonistic but could you cite a source for knowing Saban was looking at retiring in December? Everything I've seen, including his interview on ESPN says it wasn't known until, well, just before it was announced.

This dude on the UGA rivals board posted this in early December. If this dude knew, obviously a shitton of people at ESPN know and I'm SURE that everyone of importance inside teh bama athletic facility knew.

I totally agree with you that the shitty state of CFB today probably helped drive the decision, but there aint no way someone as detail oriented as saban just decided a few weeks ago to hang it up. I'm sure the proper important people that needed to know have known for a long time.

You're right. And this is why they're going to fix it eventually. The players now are all-powerful.

This is why players negotiating their own deals ( won’t work) verses collective bargaining. Set the pay, contracts are signed either 1,2,or 3 year increments so players can’t up and transfer every year, and if players must prove how their NIL is actually being used. Example can’t sign a deal with dealership X and not do what the contract says…. Commercials, appearances etc….

It seems like a simple fix but the donor who CAN finance a 6 or 7 figure NIL deal is not doing so simply to see his team win...he is also demanding access. Paying them as employees will place a barrier between them and the player. There is also nothing that can be done about a player also having a NIL deal on the side. Employment contracts can prevent that BUT a program could leave that language out of THEIR contract and have an advantage over any that had it in theirs. The courts do not have the ability to dictate what an industry contract requires. State legislatures could require state funded schools to comply but nothing can compel a private institution to do so.

The super league is the answer but only if it is somehow afforded the same quasi anti-trust exemption that pro sports in the US enjoy. I ain't no lawyer and know nothing about it but pro sports are more or less protected against competition and have been for so long that they can fend off any that comes along. They are allowed to collude and price fix and do all manner of shite which would land a plumber in the jailhouse....

Has anybody found Terry Bowden's ledger yet? Or did he take it with him? Funny how y'all were paying players long before Saban ever landed in Tuscaloosa.

The “scholar athletes” better enjoy it while it lasts. The CFB fan base is centered on fans with school loyalties way over player loyalties. When the fan who buys tickets and merch stop opening the wallet, and turn off the TV, the money will dry up.

Heard the same thing. No lie, I spoke to a Bama friend of mine who heard from a direct source who spoke to Saban that he met with about 30 players within a couple of days after the Rose Bowl, and every single one asked for more money or more playing time. They said he had already been considering retirement but that was what solidified his decision.

I believe it

I believe 100 percent this happened.. But NCAA isn't going down the road to seize players phone records and after the Freeze issue at OM... If coaches are using school phones... Then they are just stupid. So color me shocked if anything happens

I like it!

I seriously hope John Grisham is planning a novel about a topic surrounding all this. He's spun some good yarn on baseball and football both in some of this novels, I would run to the store if I found out he did a lawyerly fiction novel related to NIL

Folks have great points from all sides. Players do, especially those from poor backgrounds, fans do, especially those financially strapped from supporting programs and buying tickets, coaches do

even rich arse boosters do. They aren't devils. But they can't just throw their fortunes away on a whim.

I've been around a little, and I swear I can't understand how many G5 programs are still financially afloat at all

He didn't complain about that, and neither has anyone else that matters. There are tampering rules in place for coaches. Coach contracts have buyout clauses. Everyone deserves their money, but there needs to be some kind of structure.
