Anyone think the players stay to play for Kiffin and TRob ?

The kids love Kiffins persona more than they love X's and O's, and they have known Kiffins name their entire lives.
Meanwhile a lot of our players didn't know who DeBoer was until this year.
Kiffin would have made TRob his first call because he knows how the game is played in the south, and probably would have known how critical he was to hold the roster together.
Anyone second guessing not going the Kiffin route, or is everyone so impressed with DeBeor that it's worth it to burn the roster down and start over with him at the helm ?

Yes, Downs was going to turn down $2mil/year to play for Kiffin.

No. I think the attrition we're seeing now is due solely to money being offered to the players.
In my opinion, if a player is told he can make $100,000 more by transferring, 99.9% of them aren't going to stay because Kiffin is their new head coach.

I asked the same question about if we landed Lanning. Especially being a defensive coach.

This isn't the first time the portal has opened and our players could leave to make more money. They've had this opportunity many times.
They are leaving because they've decided to (yes get paid more probably) but also because they do not want to play for Deboer or his staff.
To act like all these transfers are just for money is incorrect.

So why don’t they transfer to OM if they love the guy so much.
OM checks are bouncing.

If that was the case they would have transferred to Ole Colonel Reb and played for Kiffy

I will say again, Mike Leach has a better chance than Lane Kiffin of ever, EVER, in this or any known solar system, being head football coach of the University of Alabama. And he’s dead

With exception of beating LSU last year, Kiffin has yet to win meaningful game at Ole Miss. I think he’s a great coach, but he still has a little way to go.

It's not Kiffin so much as it was BAMA + Kiffin
I think the two brands together would have created a frenzy to get in the building not out.
It may not be the smartest move for the kids, but they are kids and they like to be apart of exciting things, not smart things.
Plus some extra money always helps.

Why wouldn't these kids want to play for a coach that just took his team to the national championship game? If not for the money, why wouldn't they give the guy one year to prove himself? Are they not going to have to compete for playing time against the guys that were already slated for their spots on the team they go too. If I was the guy supposedly slated to be the starter and Downs was receiving a large NIL to take my spot, I'm hitting the portal as well.

Caleb Downs isn't hurting or helping his draft stock by leaving BAMA. These players are leaving to make money as a hedge against injury or other shite that can happen. Make money while you can because nothing is guaranteed.
This has very little to do with DeBoer, if anything at all. That's just my opinion.
I've worked in some world class hospitals and I've worked in places like rural Wisconsin where I might go an entire shift without seeing any patients. The money spent the same no matter from whom it came. Nature of the beast.

Salvage a top 10 2025 recruiting class and I'd feel fine. Everyone is having knee jerk reactions. This caught us all by surprise.

Maybe Because they dont know who he is, and in their world he doesn't move the needle ?
Kids like name brands. They would pay twice as much for a shitty car before reading consumer reports and buying a much better car for half the price. They will pay 300. for a pair of Jordans that will hurt their feet all day rather than buy a 75. pair that are like walking on clouds.
Why do people listen to Paul Finebaum when they could be listening to an informative audio book, or learning a new language ? Human nature.

Isaiah Bond transferred to Texas. Why wouldn't he transfer to Ole Miss? It's closer to home for him and his family, and Kiffin is an offensive genius.
Kendrick Blackshire transferred to Texas. Why wouldn't he transfer to Ole Miss? He's familiar with the DC there.
Roydell Williams transferred to FSU. Why wouldn't he transfer to Ole Miss? It's closer to home for him and his family, and he could play RB in a high-powered offense.
Malik Benson transferred to FSU. Why wouldn't he transfer to Ole Miss?
In fact, unless I'm missing someone, NOT ONE of our transferring players is going to Ole Miss. If Kiffin is the draw you seem to feel he is, wouldn't at least SOME of them -- especially the offensive players -- be going there?

Let's say...
- DeBoer is a straight X&O guy and wins everywhere he has been.
- Kiffin has the name and excitement and has not won everywhere he has been and has been fired A LOT.
Why would we sale this program short and go for "excitement and fired a lot " over a "straight X&O coach who has won"
I still think a lot of folks are looking very short term and not at the potential we have long term.

Honestly yes. Right now if we are being truthful, its all bad news. We need a W right now but I wouldnt expect much news for the next week or so.
However, things will start to fall our way soon enough. Especially if the Michigan job opens up and Brian Kelly takes it that means 2 more schools have players that are eligible to transfer. We can do a little raiding ourselves. We are in a bad spot as we are a big program with elite athletes that people want badly. It was inevitable really. Lets hope we can do the same
