Is it to protect his legacy?
(program went to shite after I left)

Like when he recommended Houston fricking Nutt to LSU

When he quit at the last minute

To again quit Miami at the last minute

Like Sean Payton recommending

Dennis Allen to be HC of the Saints

When sean payton quit the Saints?

Some egos do shite like that

I think there is more to this story than just his professional career... and I think that we will all come to see that sooner or later.

When did he tell his bosses he was retiring?

I’m really hoping it’s not health reasons.

Look, the dude terrorized LSU fans for almost 2 decades, and I hated that little man like crazy.
But he deserves to have a happy, healthy retirement with his family.

God speed Nick.
Wish you the best.

I don't think Nick Saban gives a frick about trying to prove anything. I don't think he gives a frick that he lost the playoff game.

I just think there was some internal pooling about his roster and NIL and transfers, etc and he basically said "frick this, I'm done"

I think it’s naive to suggest he didn’t let the AD know of the high probability he’s finished. There have been rumors for nearly a year about health issues within the family.

Not sure what the point of this thread is. He could walk away from the program at halftime of a game and still be Goat.

Take it for what it's worth, but there was a thread on the AU board the week of the Iron Bowl that started out with something about Kevin Scarbinsky and Wimp Sanderson discussing if Saban might be in his last year at Bama. A poster on the board said a BoT member had said it was his last year, just hadn't been announced yet.

That comment was made on the Friday before the IB.

There have been rumors it was going to be his last season during the summer. People are hopeless to think he didn’t notify Byrne awhile back about the possibility.

Agents always have feelers out and no question all of the top tier coaches knew Saban was out through Sexton and their athletic director.

What makes you think this is what happened?

Kevin Steele's retirement announcement makes it seem pretty clear to me that what you believe to have happened was not actually the case.

that sounds more reasonable to me. Unless some huge health crisis happened in the last few days i would think Saban would have given some kind of heads up.

I am afraid the family got some bad news yesterday. That is the only thing that would cause him to step down so quickly.

ETA he was interviewing for openings yesterday morning.

Bob Stoops retired from Oklahoma suddenly after 16 seasons at the last minute too. Everybody thought there was more to that story too. There wasn't.

Heard one thing, and hopefully it is false. Heard that Miss Terry is having health issues.

Why did Saban never return to Baton Rouge for a press conference after making his announcement at the bowl site? He talked to the players but never had a word for the LSU fan base.

They knew it was a possibility. I guarantee you they had a plan.

I bet it was not last minute. I would be willing to be at least the AD new before the season.
