Is LSU done paying Coach O? I don’t think they are. And now they have to pay all these coaches they fired? Plus the coaches they are going to hire? Is that right? Can you make a stick man map for us to understand how many millions this will cost LSU? We would all appreciate it.

It's weird that an Alabama fan is so emotionally invested in the LSU DC search.

Really? Getting a pay raise to go closer to home? These are not 14 year old girls, man. I would say if it’s not a huge raise, I wouldn’t blame him for staying put because Missouri is a really great team, 10 years ago I would’ve said it’s an obvious upgrade. But if he stays that would have nothing to do with “they stabbed me in the back.” If anything it’s a big I told you so moment, and he basically gets a raise for them fricking him.

What if he never left LSU and still the LB coach would that be what he really wanted? He made the right decision to go to Mizzou and then the HC realized he is a better fit as the DC than the one on the staff. Things went pretty well in the last two years. The offense finally got it going. I see not all coaches can be successful at another team/school. Same can be said for players. Look around about this from a college and pro standpoint.

It is ruffling a lot of feathers. LSU fans think they are superior to Missouri. And Missouri is coming off one of their best seasons ever.

And now LSU is trying to hire the guy that was largely responsible for Missouri’s success… that LSU fired two years ago. It is amazing to watch.

Honestly it is fun to watch...but CFB is a business. We all love the nice story of hiring the true son (Odom at Mizzou only to be fired, Frost at Nebraska, only to be fired). At the end of the day, this is a business and everyone involved, including the players, need to treat it as such. I know that's hard for us fans, but this is just reality. I've worked at the company I am currently at for nearly 14 years now, moved up the chain to a director level. I sometimes hear from recruiters that I am underpaid for my job title, this comes with growing from within. I then have to weigh if the 14 years of credibility I've earned where I'm at is worth the pain of having to go re-earn this elsewhere (even with more $$). To me, that number is rough 35-40% more that where I am at now, and everyone is different. But if I'm offered 80-90% if not double, there is no decision to make. So this will come down to $$$ as it always does. And if he goes, MIZ should be proud of putting him in position to get there. Dude has been awesome. His tweet "I'm not leaving" two weeks ago was hilarous!

Just catching up on things here... ya'll owe your prior DC $3.7MM and over $5.4MM for the defensive staff let go. I would assume...but ya never know, that Baker's buyout is north of $3MM. Maybe I'm wrong, but that is serious cash. Hopefully Baker's buyout is large, so even if losing him, MIZ gets a nice head start on the next man up.

As bad as LSU was on defense this year, I doubt money will be an object for them. If their defense had had a pulse they'd have gone very far this year.

Thinking about it from their perspective, they just wasted a Heisman QB and chance at a title because they had no defense. If this is the guy Kelly and LSU boosters want, I just don't think money will factor in. Other things will decide it, imo.

Baker's wife and MIL are already looking at Madisonville zillow.

Maaannnn. Madisonville’s nice. Covington, too. Close to the interstate. Centrally located between BR, Biloxi, and about 3 hours from Destin.

Awesome schools, too.

Wasn’t baker just a linebacker coach? Would you have promoted a linebacker coach to defensive coordinator instead of looking for a proven one if you were in Kelly’s shoes? Didn’t baker go to Miami as dc before he went to Mizzou? Why didn’t drink go after him when lsu let him go instead of letting him go to Miami?

Your timeline is all screwed up. Baker was a DC at Louisiana Tech and Miami before spending a year at LSU and getting fired by Kelly.

You fired your whole defensive staff today. People will talk about it.

So the DC Kelly hired (and has since fired) is the one that didn't retain him/fired him? It's rare for the HC to micromanage a coordinator's staff. It happens on occasion but it's not usual practice.

Here is the thing. Mizzou already has its next DC on staff. DJ Smith, the Co-DC/LB coach/Recruiting Coordinator.

Blake Baker was always a known short timer. Would it be better for DJ Smith have one more year as understudy? Sure. But Baker leaving isn’t the end of the world.

The question is, would Baker want to work under the guy who fired him, who is universally known as being a prick, for one year? And having to move his family twice in a year?

Or will he choice to spend his last year as a coordinator working under someone he likes, who he has known since both were coaches at Arkansas State?

Ever been to Columbia, MO?

Yes, lived there for 7 years and then moved back to the Baton Rouge area. Made some wonderful friends there, but Columbia itself is not impressive. In winter it is bleak beyond description. With the exception of a few, the “good” restaurants serve slightly elevated bar food. Crime is random and rampant and encompasses the entire city. The homeless population is out of control and aggressive. And it is the farthest thing from a sports town, despite having an SEC member school. I know the areas to avoid in Baton Rouge, I’ll take my chances.

Kelly fired Blake Baker. Matt House wasn’t hired for a few weeks after Baker was fired.

Ehh, we just tossed it in our "who gives a frick" bowl trophy room that is behind our 4 natty trophies and 3 heisman trophies.

Did yall put your NY6 bowl trophy next to yall's national trophies?

One of mizzous best seasons ever ended with a 2 score loss at home to LSU.

The same LSU team that was an uncalled PI resulting in a dropped end zone pass as time expired from beating Ole Miss and stealing Mizzous bowl slot. The same LSU that has won a national championship, sec championship, 2 sec championship appearances, 2 heisman winners, a NY6 bowl win, and 4 10+ win seasons in the last 6 season.

It must be nice to he a Mizzou fan watching your team have SOOOOOO much more success than LSU.

How are y’all going to square it if Baker chooses to advance his career and go to LSU?

Y’all are spinning all of these tales, but none of it is based in reality.

And for the record, I don’t think Baker is Kelly’s guy. Both he and Woodward have been airtight on these things at LSU and this “report” is suspect. BUT, watching you Missouri fans go through your mental gymnastics has been highly entertaining. Very aggy of you.
