Mizzou players love the dude too. We shall see what the decision is, but if someone's offering me nearly double the salary, I'm taking it, even if it means delaying what I might WANT to do for a couple of years. If his agent is worth anything, he will squeeze Mizzou for a counter, so maybe we can force ya'll to heavily overpay, but if it comes down to $$, which it ultimately always does, he's gone. I do not see MIZ paying north of $2MM for a coordinator...yet.

Hey LSU fans...who would be your top choice for DC? Is Blake at the top of the list?

I think Baker would be the type of hire that a lot of people would like but he isn't necessarily top of the list for most LSU fans.

I think many don't realize how good he's been.

If Drinkwitz can convince his AD and the money people that Baker can be the difference between playoff and not playoff, they can pay.

Baker would absolutely be my top choice. He probably still has a playbook on all the ways he was gonna use Harold Perkins.

USA Today listed his annual comp at $1.4M before the extension. He’s probably on pace to be close to $2M/yr by the end of the extension with the new deal.

How long of a rope would Baker have at LSU? If you’re honest, it could be just one year.

Well I hope we can keep him for longer than that, but based on what he's done at Mizzou, we might not be able to.

Also look at it this way. Why would he start over at LSU. Meaning teach players all over again, learn new terminology, go back out to recruiting at HSs in Louisiana and nearby States, rebuilt the system all over again, and stay up late to catch up with other coaches and the HC. This is too much for him unless he really wants to do all that.

I don’t think much of any of that will factor into it.

So, is she a completely “it is just business” college football coach’s wife? She is from Louisiana so I bet she is pretty emotional.

Does the fact her hometown drove the knife into her husband’s back make it hurt worse?

The fact that some posters quoted her comments when they first relocated to Baton Rouge as proof he was coming back is awesome. At least you realize her opinion might have changed.

This will be interesting to watch. LSU vs. Missouri fighting over a coach.

In my 46 years I can’t say I have seen this.

Just catching up on things here... ya'll owe your prior DC $3.7MM and over $5.4MM for the defensive staff let go. I would assume...but ya never know, that Baker's buyout is north of $3MM. Maybe I'm wrong, but that is serious cash. Hopefully Baker's buyout is large, so even if losing him, MIZ gets a nice head start on the next man up.

Money can change with the quickness.

I think LSU was the first in the SEC to pay a coach $1 million. 6 years later, even State was paying almost a million to Croom.

$2 million is chump change compared to the post season results a great DC can get you.

If he didn’t actually sign the contract, his buyout is under $1M. If he did, his buyout is likely between $1.5M and $2M, based on his last contract.

So you have to build your defensive staff

Negative. DB coach and DL coach hires will be finalized soon and having those coaches will be a major selling point for any DC. All Baker has to do is step in as DC/LB coach.

I'm really thinking this is either a smokescreen or the 247 guys are just guessing.

The buyout seems like a sizable obstacle considering you may only have Baker one or two seasons.

None of the "insiders" are consistent regarding LSU, it seems most sauces dried up once Kelly was hired.

If this there really is interest, you will likely see a decision rather quickly, if we don't know something by tomorrow night then I would say this was either a smokescreen or guesswork.

Dude WTF does this even mean. All women are emotional doesn’t matter what state they were born in.

Also they took the LB coach job in ‘21 knowing that Orgeron was on the hot seat and there was a possibility they’d be looking for a job in another year. Didn’t matter to them then, they just wanted to get back to Louisiana.

I think the "work" is an OU fan being 10 pages deep into a Mizzou/LSU thread.

If we've learned anything in the last 2 years, it's that there's no such thing as an LSU insider anymore.

This could all be BS, but I hope not.

Really? Getting a pay raise to go closer to home? These are not 14 year old girls, man. I would say if it’s not a huge raise, I wouldn’t blame him for staying put because Missouri is a really great team, 10 years ago I would’ve said it’s an obvious upgrade. But if he stays that would have nothing to do with “they stabbed me in the back.” If anything it’s a big I told you so moment, and he basically gets a raise for them fricking him.

No one knows anything.

Both the football and baseball coaching searches were kept completely silent with Kelly and Johnson only even being known as candidates right before they were actually hired.

Most of these dudes were swearing House would be retained last week.

Is LSU done paying Coach O? I don’t think they are. And now they have to pay all these coaches they fired? Plus the coaches they are going to hire? Is that right? Can you make a stick man map for us to understand how many millions this will cost LSU? We would all appreciate it.
