Did the networks have anything to do with the decision?

It’s pretty obvious that CBS, ESPN, and any other networks would rather not have a 3rd string QB messing up their ratings.
So my question is, did they meddle with this decision and if so, how? Does anyone oversee the playoff committee?
FWIW, I’m not saying Alabama isn’t better than FSU, but how TH can you not include an undefeated power 5 team and say it’s not for ratings?
If we want to talk about which team is better and who “should” beat who, most people thought Bama would stomp Texas last year and beat them this year, but neither happened. Most people thought Oregon would beat Washington in a rematch, but it didn’t happen.

Wouldn’t including a team like FSU be *better* for the ratings? I thought the whole thing was “Bama fatigue” ruining the sport and ratings?

Including a team with a 3rd string QB would be bad for ratings… also, this will be the first time Bama and Michigan have played with their current big brand coaches. It will be a big watch.

For the umpteenth time: The third string wasn’t going to play on New Years Day!

Espn own sec network. They control 75% of the cfb media. If it's going to hurt their product long term then they will pull strings. If the committee really even votes. Espn was making excuses for Bama before they even announced. So obviously there is bias.
Their only argument was FSU has a player injured and the sec hasn't been left out before. Nothing about why this Bama team deserved to be in.

For the same reason NBC decided to enter into another contract with Notre Dame.
Does anyone expect Notre Dame to be ranked lower than 12 starting next season with the implementation of a 12 slot playoff system?

I'm going to miss some aspects of CBS broadcasts.
Upon leaving, CBS was honest about the tainted officiating in the SECCG. Their "play of the game" included two plays and showed the ball on the ground on the 4th down play.
An obvious parting shot.

I'll eat my crow, I didn't think the gumps would win and I don't think they should have been put in over FSU.
But as far as network ratings, FSU fans travel, they have a big fanbase throughout Florida and the southeast, and they have the "Cinderella" season/adversity angle. I don't think it was a ratings call. But now that crow is eaten, FSU got fricked over in major fashion and I hope Michigan steps up. We will see.
Larger team playoff cant get here fast enough.

Gary D has to meet his maker soon, so he's been pointing out the obvious lately...

Beating the number one team in the country to win the toughest conference championship is pretty self evident.

Of course, they don't want blowouts.

Did they though? Bama cheated to convert that 4th down.
Was not a catch.
