Many of the Aggie posters on the SEC RANT were hoping to lure a top tier coach such as Dan Lanning, Ryan Day or Mike Norvell, to mention a few on the wish list. Did the powers at A&M decide none of these coaches were a good fit or what? Just curious.

Bad timing, tight money. I think they did about the best they could do.

If you are any of these guys why in the blue hell would you leave your current job for A&M?

I don’t know anyone that wanted Norvell. The Day stuff was agent led crap. Why would he leave Ohio St? Lanning was probably the first phone call, but he’s got something going with his squad right now. Plus Phil Knight got his hooks in him. None were realistic targets for A&M or anyone else.

There’s no sure bet on any coach. I think Jimbo proved that. Some turn out to be home runs and others total busts.

The only two that would be a sure thing at any school would be Saban or Kirby, and they’re not going anywhere.

Most of them on here expected Elko before jimbo was fired. Idk about the rest of the Aggies out there.

Yes and no.

Elko was always the safe bet. Like many have called out, the names we are after are all in contention for the CFP so timing is bad.

And yes we are also changing the contract structure. So Elko is the right choice at this time.

He needs no onboarding and can hit the ground running. He just needs to find the right OC.

I’m glad Adazzio, Petrino and Durkin are gone.

We couldn't afford them on top of the buyout.

Fans wish list and that’s about it. A few days ago they indicated a decision would be announced today.

That ruled out Lanning or Day immediately. They were never contacted anyway. Stoops never in play by Ags.

Seems it was always Elko or possibly cosch from Arizona. Elko was high on list and being thrown around by big donors mid season. Likely him all along.

Those are all great coaches, and they are all still hungry, but I don’t think they get closer to a championship faster by leaving their current job and coming here, if I’m being honest.

Elko is hungry for a championship and this would be a move closer to one for him. He’s competitive and I think it’s a great hire and fit.

Classic Aggy. Fire your coach and pay him 75 million and then don't have enough money to pay your next coach. Maybe should have thought a little more ahead.

But we do have enough money to pay our next coach.

But we weren't going to give another "Woodward Special" - 100 million guaranteed like Woodward gave to Jimbo and Kelly. And that's what it would have taken to get Day.

This thread is so typical for this site. A couple of educated, level headed, honest Aggie answers to questions and even more poo flinging and blind hatred of all things Aggy by simpletons. It’ll never change.

Which is why this site has become such a huge waste of everyone's time. It is dire need of moderation unless it is happy being the real life version of Idiocracy.

The most active posters here either complete idiots or spastic trolls.
