Griffin’s 3 right after Barcot’s dunk was the turning point in the game. Felt like UNC was about to seize control and we punched right back.

Not that difficult to do, IMO.
That's why I posted earlier that playing UNC may have been easier than playing against a Tom Izzo Michigan State team

I wanted to punch that guy in the face so many times last night.

He was awful tonight

Pringle played 19 minutes and had 9 rebounds. Nelson had 12. Nobody else had more than 4.

He also had 3 assists, which tied Estrada for team high. Sears had 2. Nobody else had more than 1 and he only had 1 turnover.

He had 4 fouls, sure, but he was a big factor in Bama getting in Bacot’s head - which they did spectacularly.

That’s the kind of “awful” that gets you to the Elite 8.

The big four guys were just awesome - what a performance.

With Wrightsell out, Griffen had to show up, and he was great.

The Ryan kid from Duke central casting hounded Sears all night, and he was still efficient and he still came up with two monster back to back possessions down 85-82 (blew by Ryan for the layup and then the assist for Nelson’s and 1).

Estrada is really playing well (outside of 3 point shooting), and obviously Nelson was a monster.

80 of our 89 points from those four.

Elite guard play = March wins. It's a tale as old as time. Griffen, Estrada, and Sears were all in the process of having career defining games until Nelson just swooped in at the end and took all the glory.

Did you guys hear the announcer call Griffen by Green twice inside of a minute. Duh. It was first half. Know your subject dude. It was corrected for the rest of the game. I think it was the color guy

Alabama basketball +/- vs. UNC:

Stevenson +9
Walters +7
Sears +3
Estrada +3
Nelson +1
Pringle +1
Wague -1
Dioubate -5
Griffen -8

That's why +/- is not everything. Griffen saved our asses with his first half while we were taking UNC's haymakers.

Hubert decided his guys could beat Alabama playing at Alabama's tempo. The thing is that I truly believe UNC is talented and veteran enough to match the tempo of most teams and beat them on their opponent's terms. Alabama just made more plays in clutch time but it is not like they went down without a fight. Bacot and Davis were a bit gassed at the end of the game whereas our guys still seemed to have some left in the tank. CNO has done a better job of managing minutes with his guys this year or these veterans are just more developed from a fitness perspective...either way, this team is making shots and still able to run late in games unlike the 2021 and 2023 teams.

A lot has been made about Grant Nelson defense on that last possession but also go back and watch Mark Sears. They were trying to get Cormac Ryan free for a look and Mark wouldn’t let him get open

UNC has been winning this way for the last two decades, so it's not surprising. Roy was a master of transition offense.

So yesterday before the game, I linked to a tweet by Wyatt Fulton who did 2,353 simulations of Bama vs UNC and had Bama winning 84-78 (here's the tweet: Tweet).

So far his simulations are 3-0, so it should be interesting to see what the simulator says for the Clemson game.

Guess we need to wait until tomorrow to see!

I saw that mistaken.

The improvement of these guys attention to detail on defense is LIGHT YEARS better than a few weeks ago.

They have improved so much in one on one defense and team defense.

When Pringle had to too come out the game because of his injury...they went straight to Bacot and scored immediately.

Pringle was like F this...insert Pringle back in the game.

UNC thru it in to Bacot and Nick Pringle stonewalled him. Turnover!

Hindsight is 20/20. Hubert probably wins that game by trying to keep the pace not quite as high and focus on force-feeding low post touches for Bacot and others. That is like demanding your C8 Corvette do the Costco run though. UNC is, traditionally speaking, a program that has more fitness and ability to sustain efficient offense at tempo than their opponents. Alabama challenged them on their terms, they accepted, and Alabama was a little more fit and a lot more productive in winning time on both sides of the court.

Did anybody else wake up and wonder if you were dreaming last night? What a ball game. What a team. What a coach.

I wondered if I’d ever see Bama become truly elite in basketball. Id say we’re there or very close. I don’t see Oats slowing down either. He’s hungry to make his mark. I think he can sustain it.

It’s surreal. I’m keeping my expectations low for the Clemson game, though. If we somehow win, though, it would be so incredible.

I could easily see him want to try the NBA.
Perhaps his math teacher in him will be enough to at least keep him in the college game

Pringle has been playing really tough these last few games. He crushed a GCU guy on a screen. He is a big strong presence out there and when he plays at high intensity it effects the opponent mentally. He is going to war down there.
