Is Alabama closer to being Georgia or Clemson right now?

Georgia: #1, undefeated, but with uncharacteristic struggles and inconsistent play, usually in the first half.

Clemson: Unranked, with a 4-3 record, but 2 of the losses were in overtime and the other was a really weird game against Duke.

Trying to answer honestly I’d say more like UGA. Clemson hasn’t recruited well or used the portal to their detriment. I don’t think we are that fallen.

We are most definitely climbing upward!

Clemson is horrible.

Neither. Georgia has had a steady diet of creampuffs and has done OK but not great. Pretty sure if they played Bama's schedule, they'd have lost at least one and probably 2 games.

Clemson is in a bit of a free fall. Dabo has shown that without elite QB play, he's a middling HC. Ever since Sunshine left, they've been just a so so team. I can see them being an 8-4 or 7-5 team year in and year out as things are. Of course, I think Clemson will fire him with records like that for too long.

They were a #1 seed with Kelly Bryant at QB. I think a better take is that Dabo was a great head coach for the player empowerment era because of his strong culture building but hasn’t adapted to the era of the players actually having the power.

They still recruit pretty well, but because they don’t use the portal, they basically have to hit on every high school guy.

Basically they are what we would have been if Saban hadn’t changed his offensive/defensive philosophies after 2013. Dabo hasn’t adapted.

Clubnik is NOT an elite QB. Period. And they've done little to nothing to adapt to that.

Eh... I don’t know about that.

They also only offer like 50 guys and give scholarships to the sons of their coaches and Dabo's friends. Their margin for error on talent evals is non-existent.

I think Clemson's QB is good...it's just Clemson don't really develop QB's.

Give that guy to Lane Kiffin or Sark and he'll be a STAR!

Alabama is closer to being Alabama of 3 years ago than any body else. We are our own standard.

This. Tennessee came out on fire yesterday and their defense is pretty good. We dismantled a really good football yesterday in the second half.

Clemson’s two losses outside of Miami are pretty damn unlucky. Duke had a four turnover lead in that game and barely scraped by.

Clemson’s not in a free fall so much as just having one of the worst coin flip seasons in years. It’s our version of last year if the A&M game ends up as a loss

Yeah, that was kind of my point. Are we a pretty good team that’s a couple of bad bounces and boneheaded plays away from 4-3, like Clemson, or are we a potentially great team that’s still just figuring out its identity, like Georgia?

Maybe a better question would be: Are we 2015 Bama or 2019 Bama?

The second half against UT was the best half Bama has played since the 2021 SECCG. 27-0 against a solid team.

I know your views are slanted - usually against anything Bama, but you can’t seriously call a 28-7 game “barely scraping by”. I guess you think the Bama fan base is comprised of nothing but morons.

Clemson is the one who scraped by WF 17-12. That could have been another loss.

As for the OT losses, think of the several “skin of their teeth” wins of Clemson over mediocre-to-bad teams in their good years: 2 vs Syracuse, Troy with Watson, NC State, etc.

Which two teams would UGA lose to?

Dabo has fallen fast these last few years. His disdain for the portal, NIL, struggling to develop two 5 star QB’s, and UGA’s ascension under Kirby won’t help going forward.

Around this time five years ago he looked poised to possibly challenge Saban’s number of championships. Now that seems laughable.

It damn sure isn’t far from the penthouse to the outhouse in coaching,

When looking at advanced stats, we're far closer to UGA than Clemson.

It's not even really debatable

FEI
UGA: 9th
Bama: 11th
Clemson: 23rd

SP+
UGA: 2nd
Bama: 3rd
Clemson: 19th

F+
UGA: 3rd
Bama: 5th
Clemson: 20th

Bonus:

SAGARIN
Bama: 3rd
UGA: 4th
Clemson: 20th

ELO Rankings
UGA: 4th
Bama: 5th
Clemson: 36th

I’m not sure who you’re replying to??

I’m not negative against Alabama and never said anything about “barely scraping by” anyone, lol.

It wasn’t you, the poster’s name is in the header.

EDIT:
I'm wrong: I was responding to UhOhOreo, not you. I just replied to the wrong post. Sorry about that.
