Question for fans who have visited The Grove when your team was playing OM…

Did you stroll by tents and have people invite you to their tailgate and feed you, offer you hospitality, etc.?
I see this crap all the time where you “just walk through there and folks will offer you food and drink and take care of you and make sure you have a good time and blah, blah, blah”…..I have literally never seen it happen. Not one time. Not at Ole Miss, not anywhere…I’m sure occasionally some weird circumstance brings people together, but the reality is, most visiting fans are treated like pure shite at every SEC campus save Vanderbilt, and that sucks. I guess we gotta have “mUh hOStiLe aTmosPherE bAw”…
People suck.

I've been twice, and no it did not happen once. Weren't treated like pure shite or anything though
I've been to 7 A&M road SEC games (Ole Miss x2, LSU, Auburn, Bama, Georgia, Vandy) and the only place it happened was Auburn. Every interaction was largely friendly at every campus though. If you aren't a dickhead and can take some good natured shite talk and dish back people get along fine. Yes, even at LSU.

Not at the grove but I did see the rebs throw a piss bottle on the field Saturday.
I have actually personally invited visiting fans from Arkansas and Auburn to our tailgate. Once after striking up a conversation at the pisser, once after some friendly trash talk.
I don't take this shite serious though and get into my feelings.

You can't just walk around aloof hoping the stars align. It takes some effort.
I've been to plenty of places, SEC, BIG 12, BIG 10 where you walk up to any tent, say "hey, I don't know anyone here, but was hoping I could buy a beer", try to give someone $5, and one hour later, you're being invited back every year for the rest of your life.
People love showing their stuff off, but it doesn't happen out of thin air.

I’m from Mississippi so I have been many times to my hometown tent in the grove even as a state fan in maroon. Always treated great, given all the alcohol/food I could want.
The ole miss people from my hometown are good people. I know it’s a heated rivalry but I’ve never had issues in Oxford personally and our hometown tent in Starkville reciprocates

Only had fun Grove experiences due to having a lot of ole miss friends. I’m far away and can really only make lsu home games or major bowl games (PNW) but ole miss was always my favorite road trip besides Arkansas and Georgia. Texas fans were friendly for the 2019 game and went to gun tailgates but also knew UT alums
Auburn is okay, Aggie was boring, Alabama was pretty boring too for how big the games are

I mean.....people aren't going to grab opposing fans by the shirt and shove food in their faces. But I've seen plenty of times where fans will just strike up conversations with other fans and then get invited into the tent for a beer.
Back when I lived close enough to tailgate, we'd offer hospitality if an opposing fan happened to come by and ask questions about Ole Miss/Oxford or just wanting to talk football.

I'll share my experience.
I went in 2014 or 15 don't remember year. We rented an airbnb off campus but was too far to walk.
We needed an Uber and an Uber to campus was running about 300 dollars. Some nice woman packed 6 of us in her minivan and drove us to the grove and shared her food and drink and tailgate and introduced us to her daughter. Food was cold chicken tendies but very nice family.
OM beat the piss out of us and it was 95 degrees. College bars charged like an 80 dollar cover it was stupid

Not true at all for Kentucky. We will absolutely feed you and share some bourbon with you.

We travel to a lot of road games. Not once have we had trouble at a large tailgate scene. Of course, we aren’t drunk assholes when walking around.
Normally deal with the occasional BS of someone drunk talking shite but few and far between.
If it happens it will be like the video…. 1 or 2 “brave” guys with 50+ or so others. The brave guy wiill be behind someone.
Tailgaters aside it is pretty dumb to act like you want a piece of somebody when in reality you are relying on their fans to hold the other guy back.

The last time Texas played Ole Miss, in Mississippi, 2012. I went to the grove and got invited to a tailgate. He posts here. DMagic. He invited me and my girlfriend at the time to come party with him. I'll never forget that. Awesome dude. Also, I don't know if it was all his tailgate or what but there was it seemed like 100 people there. Everybody was cool, and yes there was shite talking but it was friendly. Texas won that game 66-31 but they got us the next year. If DMagic still has those buddies there you need to go there. It was awesome.

Come to Kyle Field. You will get drunk and need a nap before the game from all the food you ate.
Can't speak to the Grove. We have not made it there yet.

Been to all SEC stadiums but two and have never had anything offered to me. Its either a-holes talking shite as you walk by or they just completely ignore you.
Most folks tailgating have their tailgate group and that's as far as it extends. We are the same. I don't tailgate anymore but when we did we had about 15 of us that hung out and pretty much didn't even notice people walking by.

When I was in the Grove ever week 08-15, I saw it constantly. I think it was an A&M game and it rained in the Grove. Literally every tent has aggies they’re just having casual conversation waiting on the rain to stop.
People stopping to watch other games on people’s tvs until commercial then everyone keeps moving. That usually strikes up a bunch of conversations.

I've never been offered out of the blue just walking through the Grove.
But countless times I've stopped by tailgates to chat briefly with the one person there that I knew. More times than not, the host or group of strangers organizing the tailgait will offer at least a drink.

Games I went to where I was invited to a tailgate
Ole Miss- no x3 (not surprised)
LSU- yes, of course
Georgia- yes
Kentucky- no, felt like a B1G school
Auburn- no, but it was an 11am kick and I didn’t get there until late
Tenn- same, 11am kick didn’t get there until late
Alabama- yes
Vandy- [404 not found]
Arky- went to the bars before

The one big surprise in the Grove? It’s the men that offer you blowjobs, not the women.
I don’t swing that way, so I didn’t enjoy the atmosphere vey much.
