There in lies the rub as they used to say.

Who is this gallant white knight of a coach that will come galloping in to save Arkansas football? We had several coaches, recently, with extensive ties to the area... and all of them except Pittman landed slam dunk jobs instead of coming here.

Any head coach would kill to come here! No, most of the really good ones won't because they have safer landing spots being offered to them.

Let's not shite ourselves here. We are going to have to roll the dice on a G5 coach (barring something weird happens) and hope we didn't just hire Billy Ball 2.0 so we can enjoy what Florida is going through.

Basketball? Yes, you crawl over broken glass to get the Arkansas job. Track? Hell yes. Tertiary sports? God almighty yes, lots of support and a ton of patience. Football?

Well, you better love the program with all your heart, be desperate for an escape of your current job, or be flying so far under the radar we're the only ones who've picked you up.

We can land a good football coach. But don't act like it is set in stone because it is not.

therein lies the caveat...

We need to find a disgraced coach with something to prove and be willing to deal with the PR consequences. Art Briles is an example. Hard to swallow... yep.

And b4 anyone says, "BP" I believe he can never be hired at Arkansas again because of the hiring/firing agreement.. won't happen anyways.

who else possibly? DJ Durkin anyone? lol...

We have before... Again, who would want to come here and risk their resumes against our recruiting area deficiencies, our recent (20+year) history, our firings, our PR... etc?

Dude, not many for sure. Regardless of the $$$ .. but then take that into consideration as well. We are seemingly on the cheap with football. Not so much with baseball or basketball. Wonder why? Perhaps all of the stuff above. Recruiting issues, past history, PR, etal. Don't throw good money after bad!

There are 261 Division 1 football programs.

22 of those schools have head coaches that make more money than Pittman, and 238 of them make less... in most cases MUCH less.

This is laughable. Coaching an SEC program is desirable to well over 200 of those coaches.
It's the ineptitude of the decision-makers at Arkansas that have created whatever hesitancy you think there is for the majority of these coaches.

I don’t buy into the recruiting area as being an issue. Fact is 90% of us want a change at HC that has nothing to do with the talent (or lack there of) on the field.

We don’t play sound football. It’s frustrating to watch. Can’t speak for others but I wouldn’t be already checked out if we played well but just didn’t have the horses to keep up.

Arkansas is a southern state in the south surrounded by states that have much talent.

Fans think Arkansas is Alaska and are located in a barren wasteland.

The talent in Arkansas has historically never been great and probably because and this means in recent times the coaching and player development has been bad.

However Broyles, Holtz, Hatfield and Petrino faced the same issues but still won games.

When you lose to shitty teams like Liberty, BYU, ULM and many others then it is a coaching problem.

Arkansas has a big coaching problem but they have a much be bigger problem being viewed as a loser program.

This hurts recruiting more than anything else.

Any school in the SEC is very desirable except Vandy.

Coaches want to come to the SEC and so do recruits which have mentioned the SEC as the reason why they came to Arkansas.

If a coach doesn't want to come to Arkansas and the challenge of the SEC then they wouldn't be worth a shite if they did.

I wouldn't completely write it off. Lack of talent is part of why the O-line sucks arse. Seeing us only above Vandy in the talent composite even with these good portal classes unsettled me.

I don't know how you can come in preaching recruit recruit recruit and then get outrecruited by literally everyone that cares about being good 4 years in. We should NEVER be below the likes of Kentucky/Missouri/South Carolina in metrics like that yet here we are. Not only is he failing in his specialty as an O-line coach, his shining reputation as a recruiter hasn't really panned out either.

No coach cares about that. They all think they will be different

I am not happy with how we looked against aTm. BUT, they have better players. Fact.
I was happy how competitive we were against LSU. And THEY have better players. Fact.
The only loss (so far) that I am completely PO'd about is BYU. Not only COULD we have won that game, we SHOULD have.
The other two, they were just better than us. Most often will be.

Especially when there’s about to be a massive paradigm shift in college football with power being homogenized around just two conferences.

As Andy Staples often says, don’t let your past history of hiring bad coaches sway you from moving on from a bad one. Just keep hiring until you find the right one.

We’re on an unprecedented streak of uninspiring, bad, or downright catastrophic hires right now. The key difference now being that we have a good AD instead of a weak twerp (Long), idiotic band of incredibly stupid rogue boosters (Gus/Morris), or vocal cadre of former players (Pittman).

Similarly, Pittman’s job security shouldn’t be predicated on “he’s not Chad Morris.”

I mean why stop there. I’m sure there’s billions of people willing to take the job for what we pay pittman.

My point was the job is not desirable to a coach that we’d actually want. You know like someone with the credentials and experience to be successful here. I get that butch jones would love to make 6 million/year.

Deon, the duke coach or anyone else we want isn’t coming here for less than 10 mill/year guaranteed for several years. HY isn’t doing that.

Exactly. NFL teams will draft a QB every 3-4 years until they find their guy. A guy that can make them competitive and hopefully a superstar.

I love Arkansas, it is home, and absolutely beautiful in scenery.. .mostly. I love the people, the nature, and the friendliness. But, BUT...

If I were a well known college football coach, I would view the recruiting talent report Drew linked, the 20 year history of lack of success, the drama from flying banners, to motor cycle wrecks, to Smile, to Bert, to this... and run like hell.

Who in their right mind would want to put their families/futures through this... Good Lord folks, I hope we can find someone with excellent talent, skills to do it... But the recent past is not a predictor of future results. That's for damn sure.

Not saying to keep Pittboss... he was absolutely lost in his presser today speaking of how highly rated Kennedy is. Unbelievable. But he was also seen exclusively on the field in practice today working with Oline only. FWIW!

Baseball and basketball are there because you don’t have to recruit as many. Also, our in state talent in both sports are far better than in state in football. Really hurts us when our best in state football players go somewhere else too.

watching him answer that question, he hard time looking up. I'm guessing he's getting pressure to cut him loose and is just trying to make sure he sets him up for another job.

That’s my assumption too but I haven’t watched it yet. He’s not going to throw an assistant under the bus even if he knows the assistant isn’t getting the job done
