This isn't as much a manpower issue as it is coaching. Clemson has done a poor job of keeping the fundamentals going. It happens.

Many folks said losing Venables would be a killer. I think Tony Elliott and Jeff Scott were just as big.

the one thing that has been noticeable is that Clemson doesn't have any playmakers on the perimeter anymore. They were loaded for like a decade with electric, future NFL starters at wideout, and since John Ross got hurt, they haven't really had much firepower on the outside.
They seem to have a few 4 star WRs on their roster, but none of them seem to stand out.

I have always heard reaching the mountain top is signifgantly easier than staying on the mountain top.

That and a really good RB. Shipley is an "all-effort" "bleeds Clemson" "coachable" kind of guy, but he ain't Etienne.

Watching their game against Duke, two things stuck out. They’re poor tacklers and their receivers can’t catch.

They made way too many critical turnovers. Moved the ball well but didn't hold on to it. It's the defense that is a real concern. They were gashed, at least in terms of traditional Clemson defense. Couldn't stop Duke in the fourth quarter.
Talent is there. Coaching may not be.

It's going to be interesting if Conner Weigman continues on the trajectory he's on. He was the #3 rated QB in the country and named the H.S. QB of the Year by the National Quarterback Club.
Cade Klubnick grew up an Aggie- both parents are TAMU grads.
Fisher offered Klub, then offered Weigman a few days later and said Ags were only taking one. Klub was waiting on his Clemson dream and Weigman snagged his own dream school quickly.
I'm sure Klub has no regrets but if CW goes on to do some of the things he's capable of with the talent Fisher is assembling around him, you think he'd at least wonder from time to time, What If?

Exactly my impression of the past year for Clemson. Give Klubnik some quality receivers (and a more capable RB) and they look quite different.

As the saying continues, you are on top of the mountain but you’re really only halfway up.
Also it’s not getting to the top that kills you, it’s working your way down.

As much as it pains me to say it only Bama has managed to pull that off over the long haul.
