I can tell you one things, Kirby doesn't think too much of tenn at all. No need to, when they can barely score 1 TD
You really believe that?
Georgia has no reason to worry about Tennessee until Tennessee drastically improves their offensive line talent. Georgia can shut down their running game without using their safeties. That stops Heupel's offense dead in its tracks.

I honestly have no idea. I know the Mike Leach offense was labeled "a gimmick offense" by many over the years, with the often added critique that once the other teams figured it out, it lost it's effectiveness. I've heard the same with regards to Heupel's. Is this true?
He relies on running up to the line of scrimmage quickly and calling a play faster than the defense can get ready and not allowing them to substitute. Idk that i would say its a gimmick as much as it is just an evolution in scheme. There was probably a time 30 years ago when people were screaming about the playaction pass. I mean is confusing the defense to think you're running the ball when you're actually passing it not a decietful idea inherently? Things like this have changed over the years and the current NFL looks alot more like Heupel's style of Offense than it does the 3 rushes and cloud of dust that teams of the past played. If it truly is a gimmick and its a simple as figuring it out then you and all other fans of teams not named Tennessee should be thrilled.

Leach used the offense for about 30 years and won in three conferences with sub-par talent. Hardly, a gimmick.

Heupel’s offense is his take on the Briles Veer and Shoot. It’s hardly a gimmick. They stretch the field to its extremes horizontally and vertically creating space or favorable one on one matchups.
They move fast but it would still be effective if they huddled up every play.

When it's successful, obviously.

I love it when Heupel plays UGA. 2.24 yards per rush against Kirby last season.

Ok. 2021, Heupel ran for 1.53 yards per rush against Kirby.
Thanks for letting me get that into the thread.
I wasn't sure if you wanted to go there.

Heupel uses wide splits and tempo to make the defense pick whether to overload the box and let a 1 on 1 match up happen or cover the receivers and leave running lanes open. It's not really a pass happy offense. It's actually a pretty simple offense to run. Tennessee ran the ball 54% of the time last season. People assume it's pass happy because when teams load up to stop the run they get a lot of chunk passing plays.
The reason UGA was able to stop it is because they never had to bring in any extra guys in the box. They could simply cover all the WR and stop the running game because their guys up front were just that good. Bama could have done the same thing if Golding wasn't an idiot. This is why I laugh when some of these Vol fans brag about how they're going to destroy UGA this year.
Of course, the trade off with the up tempo offense is that the defense is out on the field too long and gets exhausted over the course of the game and the season. Thus giving up 63 points to USC late in the season.

No worries. Last year Kirby took that roster full of 5 stars and won by a whole 14 points, over a bunch of walk-ons and 2-3 stars.

edit: how did SC beat them?
Defense couldn't stop USCe. Mid-way through the 3rd quarter the score was 35-31 USCe...they outscored UT 27-7 from that point forward.
Hooker was lost for the season at the start of the 4th quarter...and UT lost any hope of coming back.

That's true, and is why I mentioned both. They usually had wide open 1 on 1 vertical shots because of how their offense worked against teams with similar or worse talent level.
Georgia didn't really do anything special in 1 on 1 coverage, Tennessee just couldn't get open before the pocket collapsed running their standard offense. To make matters worse, Georgia was able to get that pressure while playing light packages with 5 or 6 DBs vs Tennessee's 4 recievers. They just didn't have a chance.

Lol. You obviously don't know anything about our defense.
3 star Javon Bullard had 2 sacks against Tennessee and about 3 more pressures on the same blitz that you coach failed to make any adjustment.
1st rounder Nolan Smith gets hurt the week prior and 3 star Chaz Chambliss steps in for 4 tackles including a tackle for a loss.
Hell... our starting safety was a walkon (Dan jackson) and got hurt the week before. We had to dig deeper on our depth chart than a walkon.

Heupel and Leach's offense have similar WR concepts but that's really it. Otherwise their philosophies were almost the opposite. Leach's offense was akin to the triple option. Slower, very small number of plays that relied on precision, execution, and repetition. Heupel runs some AR concepts but also incorporates a lot of RPO concepts which Leach lightly used.

I would say it’s not a Gimmick offense but i would say it is a “system” offense
in that the system is more
important than the players. (although you still need basic players)

If it wasn't a gimmick offense before, Kirby has turned it into one.
Heupel had better success against UGA when he was at Missouri. Which is why Kirby took the time to figure it out and be ready for it against UT.
