OT High School- Probst

Pell City at Moody this Friday. 2 of the more polarizing coaches in the state Ganus and Probst. Probst been talking trash against Ganus since his number 1 QB recruit went to Moody and then calls Ganus to see if they can move the game back to kick time of 8pm. Ganus replied oh y’all got that indoor facility and can’t handle the heat, nope we will keep it at 7pm. Pell city parent and citizens also getting in on the outrage already against Russ. They, along with many St. Clair school districts, voting for a property tax increase to money to schools. Moody quickly put sprint turf in and re-did the stadium for football. Pell City sprint turfed the baseball field and now the football field. The anger from the Pell City parents is that Probst is taking the players to spend the night in a hotel Thursday night, virtual school Friday, and play on Friday night for a game that is 20 minutes away on the cheese wagon.

Will say I hope all the players are safe and there is no reason for regret for any of the players Friday night.

Travel ball has its purpose but has become watered down and about the tournament directors making money and not about elite players playing elite players.
To many divisions in travel ball. If you want competition go play as high as you can play. The way I grade travel teams based of the USSSA standard would be similar to this in it’s current state..
A - local all star team
AA - could compete for a state championship in all stars
AAA - very good team maybe doesn’t have 5 good pitchers and maybe the athletes are big strong and fast
Major - Elite team that may have players from different states. Has plenty of pitching. Elite defense and incredible athleticism and size.
My problem with travel ball is all the coaches say they want to play better competition is why they leave their local ball parks. But if a Major team gets into a tournament because they don’t want to travel to South Carolina to play a particular weekend and they get in a local tournament that has 10 AA teams and 1 AAA team after the major team signs up all but the AAA team and possibly a coupe AA teams all drop out leaving a 4 team tournament. So the directors want to make money they kick out the Major team and the AA teams jump back in. That’s what I call the trophy chasing teams.

I know a teacher at Pell City. They are pissed.
They got rid of several coaches so Probst could bring in his own people and NONE are certified teachers and are apparently making as much…sometimes more…than the actual teachers. Now their classload is having to increase as they are having to take up the slack for these guys being paid only to coach.
They are also paying Probst’s wife a salary to be a secretary that is extremely inflated and again, more than what most teachers are being paid.
He also brought his own AD.

Yes complete insanity what Pell City has done. I have many friends that went to high school there and most are noncommittal on their opinion so far but you can see this train wreck coming a mile away.
Which wife did they hire? Wife number 1 or the sister wife? Lol. Just kidding.
And the irony of the whole “second family” stuff that got him at Hoover interestingly enough the other family was from you guessed it Pell City.

Why? Is the purpose not to play the best competition to get better? Yes I know if you’re a AA team you probably lose that game. Ok and? Maybe it shows your team what they need to work on, how good you can be at say 11 years old.
I’m not here to say how someone should run their organization but I think we have missed the point of travel ball the last 15 years or so. Back in the day there were no divisions. You played who showed up.

Other problem she said is the parents. She said they just don’t have the “winning” mentality of say Clay Chalkville, etc….said the last coach got a lot of uproar when he would require workouts at certain times, etc….parents were complaining he was wanting them to spend “too much time” on football.
Also said they had to increase the principal’s salary to accommodate Probst’s salary demands as the principal has to be the highest paid staff member and Probst wanted more than what the principal was being paid. I would assume this is where they worked in his wife’s “job” as she is barely working and making close to $60k a year. She said she is NEVER there and if she is she is always out around the athletic staff and not actually doing what she was hired to do…..which she said she is still not really sure what her actual JOB is.
So obviously Pell City is a lot different than Hoover.

Polarizing not controversial. He’s very young. Very very animated on the sidelines. Plus you know “recruiting” had never been in that area outside of Trussville and it’s still nothing at Trussville like it is at Thompson and Hoover. Just a different dynamic.

Man if my kid is playing for someone as idiotic as Propst I’m moving. It’s HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. It’s important for a lot of reasons sure but it’s not important enough to skip school for a game 20 minutes away. That’s so stupid. This dude needs to grow up at some point
