Can we play defense?

Somewhat encouraged hearing all the post-scrimmage talk about how good the d line played. Kinda worried it’s more a reflection on a weak arse o line, but we will soon know.
Meanwhile, our LBs are almost totally new and the secondary lost its best player by far…with all new faces back there other than Nudie…who is ok but not on anyone’s all-SEC watch list.
Coaches are all new. Can’t hurt but…
I’m old, but I do remember when you could count on the hogs playing stout defense. Now I just hope we can break the top 100 and be better than Arkansas State defensively.
Count me as sick of losing games when we score 35 or more points….but am worried about more of the same.

They will be top 100 but closer to 100 than 50.

We have an OL Coach as a HC. No excuses up front.

The paradox of fall ball.

I mean he’s preseason 2nd team all-SEC.
Hopefully guys like Singletary and Braxton can live up to their billing and the secondary could be much better this year.

I quit giving a frick about the football program after the Chad Morris debacle.
Arkansas as a program is so much closer in basketball and baseball to a Natty than football will ever be.
I just find it sad that the OL could still be suspect heading into year 4.

Let’s not let coach speak coming out of 1st scrimmage lead us down the pessimistic rabbit hole. Kirby had similar comments, but I doubt it’s as bad as they put out there.
We do have some Dudes on the DL. Just sayin

We suck at safety, we suck at o line, ou receivers probably suck, kj will probably break his leg, I’ll probably get ball cancer and die.. frick!!

Often times, this general rule will apply:
“Pessimistic” coach speak about a unit to the media = trying to push/motivate his guys
“Optimistic” coach speak about a unit to the media = we have some issues, trying to show my support/confidence in the guys we have.
Also when it comes to the OL, we have a new offense, the d-line is likely better than last year, and the D is likely playing more aggressively.
I’m not going to worry about a Pittman o-line until it shows issues during the season.

Yeah he honestly needs to focus on coaching the OL during practice. Not sure how practical that is but it seems like he was always a great OL coach, so why not coach to your strengths?

I watched an interview with coach Kennedy and he said the dline was sec caliber this year so that may be why the learning curve is more difficult.
But that’s good news because we won’t be fed false hope with a line going against a sub par group. Plus different schemes on both sides probably play a role.
I’m cautiously optimistic.

I see this every year. Defense looks good=our OLine is suspect, offense looks good=defense is suspect...

They played a little in 2021.
