Thanks for the clarification

He didn’t know in 2011 when he was 25 and in the NFL?

Yeah it smells like the Touhy's grabbed all the cash from the movie. What did the two Touhy kids do to earn $225,000 plus 2.5% of the films net proceeds. The Touhy's could have easily included Oher in the deal using the conservatorship.
Oher was like family right?

Per the article, he did know in 2011 and wrote about it.
Evidently, he has new representation (fyi... he had none other than the Tuohys when he was a senior in high school).
They are working to overturn the conservatorship.
I'm guessing that he expects a big sequel to the original movie.

My prediction for how this will all turn out.
1) story is released
2) media and public view the Tuoys as evil racists taking advantage of Oher. Demanding payment now, no fighting at all.
3) The Touy's release a statement and proof of how Michael did know what he was signing and was ok with it.
4) the media doesn’t print a retraction or apology.
5) the general public who just read the headline and moved on won’t ever hear that they were misled or they won’t care

They’re also shady no doubt about that. I’ll venture a guess and say no Ole Miss fan here will defend them

That story is so much BS. It’s a typical Disney movie. The Tuohy family is not a good family at all. They didn’t take him in until they knew he was a star football player and he spent just as much time at other people’s houses in that school

Oh, HE admits that?
They were just talking about this on the radio and read part of the court filing that said he had no idea until February of this year that he didn't make any money off the movie.
The guy is 37 years old and has made 30 or 40 million dollars in the NFL. Sounds like he is as stupid atv37 as he was at 18 if he never knew he made no money from a multiple Oscar winning movie that focused on his early life.

the clock doesn't reset every time a new check clears. It would go to the date of the actual alleged fraud, i.e. the execution of the conservatorship or when Oher knew of the fraud involved in the same, which he himself has said was at least in 2011 if not before
Donno why you're getting downvotes. You're a Tennessee barred attorney, right? This case is in Tennessee, correct?
People just never like the facts if it doesn't fit their narrative. A huge problem with our country right now.

Define "know what he was signing".
You do know that Brittney Spears had a conservatorship because she was bat shite crazy.
You are seeing similarities with Oher as a senior in high school?

Michael Oher, coached by Hugh Freeze in high school, calls ex-coach 'a man of God'

In the movie there was the scene in which an NCAA investigator was investigating whether the family took in this talented teenager for the purpose of prepping him to play for their alma mater and profiting off of him.
After all these years…. the investigator was correct.

quote:Exactly. I don’t give a shite about the Tuoy’s. I just hate sloppy journalism that releases a story accusing someone of wrong doing with no evidence outside of the main source making statements. They didn’t have anything from the Tuoy’s or anyone else outside of Michael Oher and his lawyer. That shitty journalism and is a huge reason this country is divided. We only get one side of the story

He is aware that he didn't get anything from the movie.
He admits that the Tuohys claim they received nothing from the movie, too (which he later learned was not true... thus making a stink about it years later).

quote:He was an 18 year old kid that up until that point had a very difficult upbringing. All of a sudden, he’s got scholarship offers plus people wanting to write a book about his life before he even started college. So yeah, I would say, at the time, it made perfect sense for him to sign it. Now if what he’s alleging is true and he never got paid anything from them off the books or movie, yeah that’s shitty.

The Tuohys refused comment.
Either the Tuohys have lawyered up.
Or it us a piece of shite journalist who sent a request without an opportunity for a reply.
I don't know the journalist.
But do you think the Tuohys are not taking legal advice to not make any public statements?

Exactly. It sounds factual that he received nothing from the movie.
The questions are if the Tuohys lied to him about their compensation.
And if the Tuohys lied to him about the conservatorship.
It will play out.

I’m sure they are but ESPN is notorious for “making attempts” at getting a comment but never actually getting one before they run a story

yes, I am. The Shelby County judges are idiots in my experience, but the COA judges in Tennessee aren't.

True. What's funny is I have trashed aspects of how the Tuohys have been portrayed and the Blindside movie plenty of times over the years on here, but I also know several people who have intimate knowledge of them and the situation. This whole thing wreaks of a shakedown for a cash grab. The timing of this with the release of his book isn't a coincidence.
People also tend to hate when the law doesn't necessarily provide for recovery when they think it should. I haven't even commented on the merits of whether they did what he says they did, only whether he has standing to recover in this type of lawsuit.
