Non-LSU related, Georgia is having a very strange recruiting year

They currently have the #1 class on On3, but have 1 out of the top 10 recruits in the state of Georgia. And that 1 is Dylan Raiola who moved to Georgia after he committed to UGA.
And it’s a loaded year in the state and they desperately wanted guys like KJ Bolden, Sammy Brown, and Landen Thomas.
12 players ranked in the top 100 in the state and 3 more just outside…only 4 committed to UGA and that’s if you include Raiola who isn’t a native
Just thought it was interesting

I was talking about this the other day. To put it short I don’t think that style of recruiting is sustainable. Could be wrong. Time will tell.

They never really locked down the state and have recruited nationally really well

I meanted this the other day. If they even locked down half the state this class would be crazy.

That type of recruiting wouldn’t work for LSU
We don’t have the budget to go out of state like that

If we were recruiting nationally at the same level as Georgia then no one would be complaining.
No one.

Are you implying that we should be? If we win back to back titles then I bet we'll be in the same situation. As would almost anyone. Until then, you're being ridiculous to think that's the standard.

I don't know whether we are getting outbid or what but the neighboring schools are killing us in state.

I will say, this is one of the advantages of the Transfer Portal now for good teams. You can bring a lot of the best players in where they can compete for that starting spot and play on the best team. Or, you can get developed by the best, if you don’t like your playing time you can transfer out and still become a first round pick elsewhere.

People always assume UGA is some monolith, completely forgetting that sections of the state consider FSU, Auburn, Clemson, and UT the closer, "hometown" team growing up. ATL is a city of transplants so the loyalties of its players are to many different places.
There are also certain schools that actively push recruits away from UGA.
The strength of the state of Georgia isn't because of the top kids. It is its depth- UGA can grab a McConkey, a Bullard, a Bennett, a Edwards, etc and win many games with them.
The difference with state of Louisiana is it has a distinct, quirky culture and LSU is near the center of population with no other big time school right at the border and it doesn't have as large a population so less deep. If LSU isn't locking down its top recruits, they hve a bigger problem. To be fair, not sure UGA has ever really locked down the state of Georgia.

I can't begin to understand it but know that this has gone on for some time...not just this yr. What's really strange is that it seems to have gotten worse as we've gotten better.

Georgia was bringing in top 2 classes every year before they won back to back titles. It's why they ended up winning those championships.
