Who can the PAC4 get to survive?

Is there any G5 programs that could keep them afloat?
Fresno St
Boise St
Utah State
BYU
Hawaii
Nevada
I dunno if they could get these and schedule some solid OOC games against former PAC rivals they might can remain a P5 conference in a 12 team playoff scenario

CFP Committee Needs to suck it up and cut out their AQ in 2024 no matter the legal repercussions. Oregon State and Washington State battling for a playoff spot year in and year out delegitimizes the CFP.
There is no more Power 5.

Come playoff expansion in 2024, no conference gets an auto birth. It's the top 6 ranked conference champs.

It doesn't matter who they get at this point, there is no media rights deal and the 4 schools left are going to get a drop in the bucket compared to what they had before. It's a massive revenue loss for those 4 teams. Who cares about Stanford though? They can't even get 20k fans to a home game. I just really feel bad for Oregon State and Washington State.

I didn’t know this. Good to know.

Which means a joke PAC 12 gets an auto berth in reality.

PAC couldn't get rights when they had the schools that just left. I think the athletic programs that remain are to crumble as a result all of this.
Truth be told, even the big 12 is going to struggle to remain relevant, they've hit a bunch singles in all of this while the SEC and Big 10 landed media home runs. It'll be curious to see their numbers in 25 & 26.

at this point they should go full meme and embrace pac4, run some hokey tournament for their champion and book money games like ND does

In theory, there would be a motivation to find 6 to 8 West Coast teams just to squat on the Pac-12's automatic qualifier for the 12-team CFP.
The confounding part is whether Stanford and Cal have any interest in associating with San Diego State, San Jose State, and Fresno State. Since their ADs are more subordinated to the academic institution than most schools at this level, I would not be surprised if they have no interest in such an arrangement. I got to imagine Berkley and Stanford's opinion of these schools is something like "degree farms for the hoi polloi."
Would not be surprised if Berkley and Stanford go independent and Oregon State and Wazzu end up running the Pac-12.

So the Pac-4 Champ will be in it.

My last understanding is that with the 12 team playoff, it was set up so that the top 6 conference champions were automatically in. It wasn't 5 AQ conferences and 1 extra, but just the top 6 period. So if 2 G5 champions were ahead of the Pac12 champ, they'd get in.
I think that number needs to come down from 6 to 5 at the very least.

This is the problem. If Stanford and Cal decide to shelve the snobbery and support expansion (huge "if"), there's no collection of available teams that could be cobbled together to create a power conference.
To be clear, the four remaining Pac-12 teams are small brands with no upside. When a school as wealthy and connected as Stanford isn't a slam dunk for the Big Ten, you know that it has some serious drawbacks. Grabbing Fresno/SDSU/Boise/Memphis/Rice/Air Force/whomever would make for a fun conference, sure, but it's nowhere close to being on par with the Big XII and ACC (let alone the Big Ten and SEC).

I thought the same but this dawned on me:
Stanford may not care for the cfb rat race anymore but recruiting exceptional athletes that compete in your typical upper-middle-to-upper class olympic sports is a big part of their brand.
I think they're going to have to make some concessions just to have competition for their athletes in non-revenue sports.

If I was one of the PAC 4 teams I'd call CFP bluff and say... we're in!!

Yeah, it's all really messy. Stanford could be an independent program in football with ease, but managing a full schedule for basketball and baseball without the benefit of penciled in conference opponents seems really tough. Doable, I guess, though it'll likely cost you a lot of money (money they have, in theory) to get strong RPI teams to Sunken Diamond in April and May.
I would assume that the fringe Olympic sports like water polo and beach volleyball are easy enough to schedule, but who knows.

Consolidating with the MAC is its only real option

The Pac12 stated they're not looking to poach teams but to merge with the Mountain West
