If they don’t win quickly with the new energy with Key taking over, their donors will go dormant again. I just don’t see them as taking football seriously enough to stay up with the big boys going forward.

I could see them disbanding the football team and putting their focus on cricket or mahjong

I doubt GT is a target of any of the 3 “conferences” going forward.

I think they’d be a target for the B1G and Big 12. Getting into the Atlanta recruiting market will still be important. 1 or 2 B1G schools have marginal success recruiting the state, specifically Atlanta, but the rest of the B1G and Big 12 don’t. They meet the academic standards for the B1G too.

They’ll be in the SEC. No way they leave the region.

If SEC was taking team in the same TV market it would be FSU and Clemson

Most of their big time donors are dying
off and the program is in serious financial trouble and will only get worse if the ACC goes down the tubes.

I think a lot of schools will give serious consideration to dropping football within the next 5-10 years, or at least dropping divisions. GT, Cal, Hawaii, and some MAC schools immediately come to mind.

ACC Grant of Rights makes it nearly impossible for a member to leave prior to 2034. They made a smart decision as a conference to lock in their institutions with the last tv contract for football and basketball. FSU bitching ain’t going to change that

This latest conference expansion makes no sense to me. It's obviously heading towards the Power 2 and everyone else. So if you aren't in the SEC or Big10; then what? You're in a crappy conference; with a crappy TV contract; and you have no chance at competing for high level recruits. I would imagine the ACC tries to merge with the Big 12 and maybe the PAC 12 will join in. If they are going this route they should dump all the conferences. Then just have the top 30 teams in one league with 4 divisions. Do it like the Premier soccer league and relegate the bottom tier teams every year. Have a sub-league and the top teams each year get promoted. I'm kind of kidding but that's how ridiculous this is getting. As far as Tech I doubt the SEC wants them.

All the other sports will suffer other than football and basketball. Lots more travel by air on commercial planes for track, baseball, softball, etc.

According to a coworker who is a FSU grad and big time homer, said there won't be any money involved. Probably the reason you see the ACC going after the pac 4

It's stupid. For gymnastics and women's volleyball you will have all these teams flying across the country in different time zones to play matches and games.
