National championships by conference since 2002 (20 years)

Football

SEC 14
ACC 3
B1G 2 (both OSU)
B12 1
PAC 1

Basketball

ACC 9
Big East 6
SEC 3
B12 3
B1G 0
PAC 0

Baseball
SEC 9
PAC 5
B12 2
ACC 1
C USA 1
Big West 1
MtN West 1
B10 0

Pretty fricking pathetic. They have OSU football and that’s it. In all big 3 sports.

Guess if they add enough schools eventually a couple will win something

Media markets. That’s it. The ACC has outperformed the Big Ten in all the major sports on the field and on the court

Put a 0 next to Pac 12 in Football.

2004 USC is Vacated just like LSU’s 2015 Texas Bowl.

PAC is overrated as a baseball conference too. They typically only get one, maybe two, regional hosts per year. The SEC and ACC usually combine for ~12.

They have like half of the US population in their tv markets.

Because national championships don't really move the needle. Brands do. Michigan, Ohio State, USC are S-tier brands.

They’re the 2nd best conference, half the country, and getting stronger.

Because of population density/popularity.

B1G outside of OSU is full of overrated programs that haven't done jack squat the last 30 years.

Because these schools draw huge dollars.

Because they have two programs that are deep into the all-time wins list of college football. Michigan and Ohio St.

Then there's Penn St which is on the top 20 list as well. All three are helmet schools. The media loves winning programs and they have 3.

4 if you count Nebraska. Though Nebraska has been a smoldering dumpster fire, they have rich history

B1G has eyeballs
SEC has product

If you can not understand this, not sure how I can simplify it more.

People watch their games. And they were not run by an incompetent POS like Mike "Follower" Slive (gcg)so they did innovation thing like their own network.

Once they got the biggest TV contact they can keep demanding it.

Now the SEC is run by an inept moron like Sankey and we are fricked.

Because they dominate the Yankee market which holds most major networks.

The thinking is that eventually having a larger viewer base with more money translates to more money for the schools for enough time to overcome facilities and recruiting gaps with the SEC.

The facilities I can see; I’m not even sure that the Ohio States and Michigans of the B1G are behind, but if they are, that’s solely a matter of money, and they are making more than us. Recruiting, I’m less sure. Money is going to matter way more than any of us want. But TV money isn’t the only money, and there’s a realistic ceiling on money you can throw at recruits even if you have more of it than the other guy. And the SEC has all the other built-in advantages still.

Sadly, as others have said, this one is easy. The SEC sells the steak, the Big10 sells the sizzle. It doesn't matter if they've under performed in a massive way. They've got the fans that they will still be pushed to the moon.

While the money may be good (but wait until the travel fees start to add up) I suspect some of the PAC-12 teams that jumped ship are going to have COVID level crowds once the newness wears off and you've got Rutgers coming into town late in the season. We know the LA schools rarely draw a decent crowd as is.

I’m sorry , but if you’re going to list baseball you might as well list all the other sports. I’m sorry for the 4 schools in this conference that make money in baseball that want to stand on their soap box and scream it’s a “BIG” sport. It is in your town, but it is not nationally. There are only 2 , not just nationally; but SEC generating sports. Those are Football and Men’s Basketball (barely). It’s the truth and that’s what realignment is all about, revenue. I can promise you when they are talking TV deal , they networks aren’t saying we’ll pay you X dollars to be able to show a Thursday night game of the week on our streaming platform. It’s more like we will but these sports on the digital platform for you, but it will cost you this amount.

Now to your point of being relevant; basically has to do with National brand recognition; and for the most part that means football in this country. They were discussing this on of the XM sports channels, yesterday. They made a valid point, there aren’t Power conferences; there are Power programs. This whole consolidation in to 3 leagues; will at some point be a re division Inc into 2- 3 additional levels of college Football.

I hate to break it to you, but some of the current SEC programs Probably won’t make the cut if it’s 40 teams in the top level.

More population and larger cities than the south, it’s not rocket science.
