If you are not Alabama, Georgia or Ohio State, what you need to win a national title....

Two things:

1. A dual threat QB that can throw off script. I'm not talking about a QB that necessarily has a ton of rushing yards, though that's okay if it's added to this. But a QB that can avoid the pass rush when the blocking breaks down and create passing plays off of that.

2019- Joe Burrow
2018- Lawrence
2016- Watson
2013- Jameis
2010- Cam
2008- Tebow*

I've seen Tebow do this, but I'm not sure he was in the same categories with the others throwing off script. Also, UF looked more like OSU, Bama, Georgia at that time with Urban's recruiting.

2. A top ten secondary talent wise. This one is not quite as sticky. But still holds up most years.

2019- Couldn't find national rankings, but LSU was ranked the no. 1 secondary in the SEC in most of the preseason rags, and considering the talent on Alabama, Georgia, etc., I would think that was top ten if not number one in the country.

2018- Athlon ranked Clemson fourth in secondaries going into the season.

2016- Clemson was not ranked nationally that I could find, but did have two players ranked first or second team all acc in the secondary.

2013- Athlon ranked FSU's unit 6th overall.

2010- An outlier as the Auburn secondary had no one of real note playing.

2008- UF's secondary made a top ten list of the greatest of the 21st century. The article was written in 2015. Others on that list if you are wondering:

2011 Bama at 7
2013 FSU at 6
2008 UF at 5
2011 LSU at 2
2001 Miami at 1

Burrow played well that game, but the fact that UGA managed 3 points through 3 QTRs and only scored a TD after being down 34-3 when the game was out of reach was a big factor.

We need players .... lots and lots of players.

And they need to be coached-up.

We're headed in the right direction it's just gonna take some time and something has-to-be done about this transfer portal NIL bullshite.

The reason Burrow killed Georgia was off script throws. It's almost always the reason Bama or Georgia (with Kirby) get beat. That's the thing that beats their defenses most often.

Manziel
Stidham
Burrow
Watson
Lawrence
Cam
CJ Stroud, didn't win but close
Bryce Young
etc. etc. etc.

We need alot more talent. Last year was great, it was fun to really feel like we were involved in the actual national picture for the first time in forever. That being said we truly aren't there yet talent wise. Uga, bama and even lsu have been stacking talent for years. If we can keep the 10 win seasons rolling I think we will be there shortly. It was really a pretty incredible coaching job by heupel to get as much out of that team as he did.

Vols secondary was the weak point last year. Pruitt prioritized sure tackling over cover skills figuring he could teach the coverage side easier and the Vols are just now cycling through to a more coverage based priority.

To win in the SEC you need to go 3 deep on defense with guys you are not afraid to put out there. You need 7 Oline guys you trust, 2 receivers, and 2 RBs and a mobile QB.

But I agree 100% you have to have a QB that can extend a play and you have to have a deep secondary that can cover anybody and tackle to hit the next level.

I would include uga in this. They haven’t won shite without Bennett. I think he was more key to thier run than they know

I believe there are other factors besides having the Jimmies and Joes to win a championship. You need team chemistry and team leadership. Championships are special and it takes a special team.

I love Stet, but he was a pocket passer who ran (and not enough) if there wasn't anything downfield. He made some off script throws, but he also made some foolish ones that got him into trouble on the run. He was not as consistent as those I listed.

Hooker is similar in that he made some, but you had him where you wanted him if he was doing that.

Can you name one off script throw in any of the playoff games Stetson played?

I think that's a no brainer. My point is more this is what gets you over the hump or evens out the overall talent and depth of the roster that those three teams have over everyone at the moment.

No but I watched uga get dominated by a shitty Arkansas team for three quarters until Bennett came in and lit us up in the fourth quarter.

Just saying he could very well be UGA’s Vince young. It’s not like Kirby is known for developing QBs.

Perhaps. The issue always remains the trenches. LSU's DL was worn out at the end of the season due to depth. It showed in the A&M game and in the SECCG. UGA ran at will and we couldn't get to Bennett who could sit back and pick his targets.

UGA and Bama will always be able to stockpile talent on the line so I don't expect an advantage there, but getting the depth and adding a few dynamic players will level things out. Offensively, an injured Daniels threw for 200 yards in the 1st half and Nuss threw for almost 300yds in the 2nd half. In the 3rd qtr LSU had a chance to cut the score to 11pts but failed on a 4th and 1 inside the UGA 20. Either way it wouldn't have mattered because LSU's defense was done, but LSU managed 549 yards offense that game with a gimpy starter QB and a back up.

LSU is across the board better this season and has more depth, but would still need the ball to bounce the right way to beat UGA or Bama and can still lose to a lesser talented team.

Every QB that Kirby has had that started more than one game for him is either still in college, on a current NFL roster, or has spent multiple years in the NFL.

Jake Fromm 3 games 60 attempts in the NFL a practice squad guy

JT Daniels transferred to Rice a bust

Bennett might have a career as a practice guy

J Eason career practice squad guy

That’s every QB to start one than 1game for Kirby. Multiple years in the NFL implies they are active members of the team. Reality is a bunch of 5* guys that either are a bust (Daniels) or career practice squad guys.

Why are UGA posters like this?

Pruitt was terrible at managing QBs by UGA poster standards Bailey is still in college, Strout is still in college, Maurer is still in college, and Guarantano is a practice squad guy that made an active roster (and likely will sign again as he was just waived 4 days ago) so Pruitt must be great at managing and developing QBs.

Mind boggling.

We took care of that in December! Just needed a coach who was not scared of any above named teams. Some coaches have turned us down using the old school disfunction excuse when actually they were not man enough to go toe to toe. We good!
9 months on the job.....Currently 16th in the nation recruiting with only 14 committed.
When sorted by average player rankings.... consider Auburn only has 14 commits while the top 3 have double the number.

Ohio State
Bama
Georgia
Auburn
Florida
Stay fat, lazy, arrogant dawg... there's a tiger and gator in the bushes and they calling your name!
Everybody is wanting to come swim with coach. The phones at the football facility have not stop ringing all morning!
Nick is throwing a fit in the admin offices and Kirby swallowed his chewing tobacco.

Hire a coaching staff that can recruit on the level of osu, bama, georgia.

Easier said than done if you don't have the facilities, or competitive NIL funds
