Or he could wait a little and get a much better job, like any halfway successful Saban coordinator. It would definitely be shitty to lose our OC this late.

I wouldn't think a 31-year old would want to step into that shitshow as his first head coaching gig.

If he leaves, I can't wait for all the posts about how he's the "best offensive mind in football"

Choices:
1) Go over to a 1-11 team with an obvious mutiny taking place within the program, or

2) Continuing with an elite program that puts their coordinators, one after the other, into excellent HC positions within a year, or two.

Hard choice?...I think not.

Northwestern isn’t a terrible job depending on what you are looking by for.

-Win 7-8 games a year and you are safe
-Major investment in their facilities which are top tier in the B1G
-Major P5 budget
-Weak instate competition for recruiting
-Decent program base from Fitzgerald

You could coach there for 10 years @5M/year and have much lower stress than almost anywhere else in P5 like Fitzgerald was doing until the scandal.

None of this is true.

True. The best Rees can hope for at NU is a few 8/9 win seasons in 7 years which will land him a top job. He can do that at Alabama without risking his W/L record.

If he really feels the need to coach NU, he'd be wise to wait until he's failed somewhere else

I don't think that's as easy as you think it is.

Northwestern is a bad job. Fitzgerald was really good and did a lot with very little. Rees can get a better gig if he waits.

That would be career suicide for Rees
They are throwing all kinds of names out there but no one is taking that job on short notice
NW needs to get thru an interim coach assuming no involvement in hazing scandal

You hire guys like Mike Shula after these out-of-band terminations. If they want a permanent coach before the 2023 season, they’ll be hiring some favorite son lucky to receive the offer and dumb enough to accept it.

Count the number of Saban's coordinators who are in HC positions and get back to us...HELL! just count the SEC HCs who are Saban's old coordinators.

What?

Pouring a cup of coffee for Saban will get someone hired elsewhere.

Every single DC until Golding left for a head coaching job. Every OC since Applewhite left for a head coaching job or NFL OC.

Don't move the goalposts now.

Your original statement:

Alabama fan fiction.

What?

Bielema is building a solid program at Illinois, and you have to keep in mind the geography of the area. Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Purdue are all as close, or closer, to Chicago than U of Illinois.

How the hell is this fiction?

Sans Golding and Applewhite, who hasn’t eventually been hired as a head coach?

Other than Kirby, what Saban assistant with zero HC experience has vaulted themselves straight from Alabama to a top P5 head coaching job? Pruitt is the only other one I can think of, but he took over a Tennessee program who was winless in the SEC and wrecked his career in the process.

Fisher - LSU OC > FSU OC > FSU HC
Kiffin - Raiders HC > TN HC > USC HC > Alabama OC > FAU HC > Ole Miss HC
Muschamp - LSU DC > Miami DC > Auburn DC > Texas DC > Florida HC
Jim McElwain - Alabama OC > Colorado St HC > Florida HC
Steve Sarkisan - USC OC > Washington HC > USC HC > Alabama OC > Texas HC
Mel Tucker - ALabama DB > UGA DC > Michigan St HC
Billy Napier - Alabama WR > Arizona St OC > ULL HC > Florida HC
