Pitch Counts Are Only Suggestions at the College World Series - Wall Street Journal

quote:

The research explaining why that’s the case is evident. Fleisig said that a sharp spike in workload and frequency of pitching is “maybe the strongest indicator of injury risk.” Throwing a lot of pitches at maximum effort at high velocities is also linked to injury. Skenes threw 46 of his 123 pitches against Tennessee on Saturday at 100 mph or harder.

It turns out there was never any doubt that Skenes would pitch Thursday on short rest. LSU coach Jay Johnson said that as early as Tuesday, he wrote on a whiteboard who he wanted to pitch every day through the end of the season, with Skenes slated for Thursday. Johnson asked his team if his plan was doable. There were no objections.

“To be honest, there wasn’t a whole lot of conversation,” Skenes said.

quote:

The calculation is different in Division I. Skenes has delivered a dominant junior season after transferring to LSU from Air Force. He has posted a 1.69 ERA in 122? innings, striking out 209 batters against just 20 walks. In the upcoming draft, he will likely be selected with one of the first two picks, which are held by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals.

Mathews and Hall are also projected to be chosen in the early rounds, meaning they potentially took a risk pitching so much.

No mentions of DVH

Mentioning Arkansas doesn’t exactly lead to more viewers, baw.

You’re a cute little brand with nice facilities and a top notch track program though :)

The Braves radio crew had discussion about Skenes yesterday. The topic was how long he’d be in the minors before getting called up. They said the only concern is the high number of pitches he’s thrown in the last month.

Anything for a title.

It’s all BS. In the 80’s and 90’s coaches would throw their pitchers arms off. I don’t believe there is abuse in the modern era. There is too much attention on these players. It would kill Arkansas if these kids parents believed he destroys arms.

They were talking about whether Skenes would pitch in the majors THIS season. Dumb troll. Stop being jealous of LSU.

The competitive kids will always say that, that’s why you have a coach to intervene for the good of the kid. DVH failed to do that

I'm not sure why people keep using the narrative that DVH blows arms off? It's like accusing someone of abuse or rape disgusting accusations!
