More Impressive SEC Dominance: Baseball or Football

Consider the national champions in each sport this century. SEC is well represented in both, but football is ridiculous

My thought is you'd be wrong. Going back 17 years to 2006, 13 of those seasons were won by the SEC. That's over 76% of the national champs from the last nearly 2 decades all comign from one league.

If you take into account the massive demographical advantage the SEC has, it makes more sense why the SEC dominates in football. Football dominance is really just a regional dominance that was started by Miami in the 80s. Being that baseball talent isn't as concentrated on a map like football talent is, it is more impressive that the SEC dominates due to development of players.

With 5 different Teams from the SEC. Only 3 teams have won that were not in the SEC.
Baseball has won the last 8 out of 13, with 6 different teams.
Both pretty impressive.

Baseball. So many of our top players the last few years are Tennessee boys. That local connection is something you just don’t get in other sports

It's football
Climate and being able to play baseball almost year round gives the south a leg up on most of the country.
Even without Alabama, the SEC has had other viable teams that could've contended in football each of those years

Baseball has also had 11 different programs reach the CWS, and a 12th (Alabama) reached in 1999. Kentucky and Missouri are the only outliers there.
In football, that national title number is 5.
LSU 3
Alabama 6
UGA 2
Florida 2
Auburn 1
To have a relative comparison to the CWS, 10 different programs have reached BCS/NY6 bowls this century.
SEC teams have faced one another in the national title series 3 times in baseball and twice in football.
I'd say it's pretty damn close, with football being a little less balanced and a little more top heavy.
And if we want to bring women's sports into the fold, SEC womens softball is right up there in terms of top to bottom dominance.

This is canceled out when you consider that outside of the SEC's footprint, there might be 5 schools in America who put any money into their baseball programs. College baseball does not have some big national following like a lot of people on this site seem to think it does.

I would also agree with baseball. There’s 129 FBS teams and only 30 or so have a realistic chance. The field of possible baseball champions is massive. A team like Coastal Carolina winning a championship is only possible in baseball.

Well, the SEC won 3 NC in football in the 50's, 3 in the 60's, 3 in the 70's and the only decade they did not win 3 or more since then was 1 in the 80's.
