Pat forde already dubbed it the big 8 the "A" teams and everyone else the "B" teams. I feel it's reasonable, something to consider aTm has everything the big 8 has, minus one thing(we all know what that is) if they win a title is it big nine or is the oldest natty(tenn) out?

Tennessee has won national title and multiple sec east titles.

Aggy has not come close to Tennessee. Not trolling, just facting.

Tennessee has a great history and even remained relevant over the last decade even though they sucked…..because they are Tennessee.

Yep. There is only one, objective criteria. This isn't a talk show debate.

You have to go back 60 years to find an SEC champ that wasn't a Big 6 school. In 1963 when Ole Miss last won the conference title, the SEC had only existed for 30 years. The distinction of Big 6 comes from only those 6 schools exclusively winning the conference for the latter 2/3 of the conference's existence and continues to grow until someone breaks the mold.

Texas and OU obviously have more history and success than anyone else outside the Big 6 so they're an interesting case, but they still have to earn their way to be considered in that club to make it a Big 7 or 8 imo. Not to mention 5 of those Big 6 schools have won natties since the last time either OU or Texas have. You can rag on Tennessee about being the odd one out in that last group but consider them grandfathered in since they won a natty 2 years before OU's last and 7 years before Texas' last so it's not like they're that far behind and they do meet the SEC champ criteria.

Only tRant gets to gatekeep SEC hierarchy. Big 6 remains unchanged. No one cares what journo boy says

I'd consider OU. They are a perineal contender. Texas and Auburn both benefited from a generational player at QB.

I think the Big 6, plus Texas and Oklahoma, bring in a lot of viewers.

Just not during the CFP.

Who cares about the Big 6? The Astros are never going to be Little League world Champs, you think that bothers them one bit?

Post-SEC/Texas merger, consult the below chart to tell if your team is relevant:

It will move to a big8. You add two blue bloods, you may need to expand the big6.

bluebloods from other conferences eons ago don't just join the elite in our conference.

What is the qualification to join the Big 6?

Winning the SECCG since it's inception in the early 90s. You cab go one step further and say teams that have won the SECCG and a natty since the SECCG started. Still the same 6 teams.

Understood, but OU definitely could.

And they’ve won championships in my lifetime and they won their conferences while the previous two big12 subtractions didn’t come close.

Some of your Blue Bloods haven't won in 30 years and may never again.

Texas v.

Alabama 7-2-1 78%
LSU 9-8-1 53%
Georgia 4-1-0 80%
Florida 2-0-1 100%
Tennessee 2-1-0 67%
Auburn 5-3-0 63%

Total 29-15-3 66%

It is going to be SO much fun watching these numbers slide as Texas has to play the big 6 every season instead of in Bowl games. Some quick research indicates that when Texas played these games they had a winning % of .798 the year the game was played, on average. The SEC opponent had a winning % of .613%. Of the group LSU is the only team that played Texas with any regularity during the regular season and not in a bowl game, the rest of the time it was a matchup in a bowl game where Texas had a better record or a regular season matchup where Texas had a much better record than their SEC opponent. That ain't happening going forward...3 of the 4 programs are far better established than Texas at the moment and have been for far longer...one of them is coming out of slump that is unprecedented in their history and the other 2 are a pick 'em and no telling how good they may be from one year to the next.

2 of these 8 will make a 12 game playoff every season. I'd bet that 3 will 80% of the time and 4 will somewhere around 50% of the time....going undefeated for a season in the SEC is going to be INFINITELY harder going forward....its going to be some good football for certain.
