“I don’t measure our program based on their program,” Smart said. “Our success is based on how we perform. I have the utmost respect for (Alabama coach) Nick (Saban) and the Alabama program.”

My opinion: no, we haven't surpassed Alabama (certainly not in number of titles); perhaps we've come to equal them or surpass them in certain areas, but overall, no.

Back to back natties, including a head to head dub against Bammer means the answer to this question is YES

Definitely a good way for Kirby to answer, though.

Auburn, Bama, Florida, and Tennessee just needs to conspire to knock you down a peg.

We have already put up with Saban.

UGA is probably the better team right now, but that head to head record is pretty lopsided in Bama’s favor for the last 15 years or so.

UGA has a looooong way to go to surpass Bama as an elite national program.

Why answer a question like this? There is no right answer because "surpassing another program" isn't true until it's so obvious the question no longer gets asked. Kirby is smart to avoid clown questions like this. Pun intended and not intended.

No. UGA was extremely lucky to dodge A1abama this past year.

If you are looking at the next 5-10 years I think almost everyone would say UGA is in a better position. Kirby has already won two, and is 24 years younger than Saban.

I don't know if UGA will ever surpass Bama as an overall brand/program, but they are creeping up quick as a program all time for sure now that they have some more National Titles to back up the claims

Has UGA surpassed Bama historically? No way.
Is UGA better than Bama right now. Absolutely.

It also has to be factored in that most of Saban’s success came because of Kirby.

The only titles Saban won without kirby was a back door title in 2017 and a Covid year “bubble” title in 2020.

Kirby has matched that himself already and is just getting started

THAT'S how you answer that question.

You don't base your success on one other program. I'm specifically talking about LSU who uses one game to determine a successful season. When you finish number 16 or 18 in the country but you are ecstatic with your season but won that one game, you are a loser.

Well done Kirby

Depends on what people are talking about. Historically? If Georgia ever passes Bama as a historical program, none of us here are gonna be alive to see it.

That's not even an argument.

Are we talking since Kirby has been UGA's coach. Probably not since Kirby is down in the head to head.

But it seems to me there are a lot of people conflating all-time, the last five to ten years and right now, as in right now at this time.

If we're talking right now, the answer is yes. I mean it's like when those NBA analysts were arguing Lebron or Jokic during that playoff series. Lebron is obviously the better player all-time and maybe even since Jokic came into the league. But right now? I mean that's not a conversation.

I was re-watching this years LSU game and how good Garrett Nussmeier was and thinking, we might not face Bama next year, either.

I don't know if he will be LSUs starter but that kid moved their team all over the place in the championship game.

Seems UGA is right there. Unfortunately for LSU and Auburn it’s been a great season run here and there then slip back a bit. Let’s see what Tennessee has to say about it also.

Loaded question at face value.

But the fact is that in the 2023 season, programs are more worried about playing Georgia than Alabama.

Playing 2 ranked team in the regular season and then playing the weakest final opponent ever that went 5-7 in the previous year? Then yes, UGA has surpassed Alabama.

The Saban assistant turned HC that found the most success in that position is the one who coached under Saban the longest.

Idk about overall but right now I'd say Georgia has an edge in player development, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, and that's a huge one.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that Kirby is not going to be disrespectful to Saban. I also agree with Glory, it’s a dumb question and there’s no good way to answer it.
