After new details, media owes Brandon Miller, Alabama Basketball an apology (SI)

Well worth reading, imo. It highlights and clarifies key evidence revealed in Ryan Phillips' somewhat disorganized report.

ETA: Sorry, I should've posted the article in this thread, but I didn't notice it.

The thing is, very few of those details are new. It's just that the non-bama world refused to read and understand what had actually happened. The new details change nothing about Miller. If anything, they just make Miles look better than he did.

If the DA and/or Tuscaloosa PD would release the video evidence we've all heard about then it would at least help to clear up a lot of confusion

After the article, they have nothing to gain by releasing the video. Johnson was the one who started the whole thing, so really He has nothing to gain by testifying against miles knowing he'll be indicted.

So, I think there will be a drop charge against Miles eventually.
Davis get plea deal. THey will go after JOhnson.

Is it true that they can't find Johnson?

Not sure why, but the piece seems to have been removed.

Maybe the court censored it.

The court has no authority to do so. They can gag order the people involved in the case, but not some random reporter. That’s basic first amendment.

That Patch article tells a very different one than what the public was sold in the immediate aftermath of the event.

Looks like Miles and Davis are charged solely on the testimony of the investigator and not on the video of events.

It's interesting that the driver of the Jeep and likely the one that shot first hasn't testified.

I've gotten a sense that the whole thing didn't really add up from the start. Like when the investigator testified that what Miles claimed was a gun passed from the front seat to the back could have just as easily been food. Well, if it was food there'd have been a food container in the car or the Humphrey girl could have told you it was food. All he could do was speculate though. That's either because he's full of shite or did half arse police work. Then they found a loaded magazine but no gun to match it in the Jeep. And now we're hearing about this meet up between the occupants of the Jeep and a violent career criminal after the initial confrontation but before the shooting? And the Humphrey girl seemingly can't corroborate a single thing this Johnson dude said to the cops even though she was sitting in the car with him the whole time. Literally every time more details emerge it seems more and more likely that this Johnson dude was planning a drive by on Davis.

Culpepper should be fired after all this is over.

Gross fricking incompetence at the least, but it's looking more and more intentional.

Incompetent for sure, but I don't think it's intentional. It's just standard cop procedure. They assume the worst if they can prove someone lied to them. He heard a compelling story from Johnson, Miles and Davis lied about how Davis got shot, and at that point the idea that Johnson may have also lied became an afterthought. They let the lawyers sort that out. The fact that Johnson is evading subpoenas for the murder of his child's mother speaks fricking volumes though.

Y’all are putting a ton of stock into a single story by a writer without access to all the evidence. You are doing the same thing the “hang Brandon Miller” crowd did the day his involvement went public.

It’s a bad plan.

The good plan is to wait until the actual evidence gets presented in court.

Now, downvote away.

I am not going to downvote you - but I know Ryan. He peels the onion a layer at a time. While he doesn't/cannot know everything, I don't think he would release something that wasn't reliable

I don’t disagree that there are two sides to every story and both sides will have a chance to present their case.

But this writer at least cited the evidence he had seen unlike the click-bait ‘journalists’ who have dominated the story thus far, presumably based solely on the initial sensationalized al.com write up. It’s is really the first presentation of the other side of the story, which to date has been decidedly one sided and emphatically anti Miller and anti Alabama.

I am waiting before making a judgement, but it's fair to question how they are charging Miles and Davis seemingly based solely on Johnson's initial statements.

It’s weird to me how the Miller story hasn’t been talked about as much on ESPN or on CBS since yesterday. There was no mention of it on Sports Center this morning and on CBS website when I looked.

The odds are in high they are not charging based on Johnson’s statements alone, which is why it’s important to wait on the trial and see all the evidence.

In these preliminary hearings, the state only has to present enough evidence to sustain the charge. They only have to give the defense any potentially exculpatory evidence they possess.

Nobody, to include the defendants, will see all the cards they hold until the trial.
