Is it possible for a program like Alabama to turn into Nebraska?

I think we have all come to the realization that Nebraska will never be a college football power again. But could that happen to Alabama? One would say no because Alabama is willing do dish out big bucks for the best coaches. And Alabama fans live and breathe for college football. But wait, so do Nebraska fans. And Nebraska fans are willing to dish out big bucks for coaches as well. They just haven’t been lucky enough to bet on a Nick Saban. But let’s say their luck runs out. Let’s say their next three coaching hires are busts. Could their program slip to Nebraska levels?
One would continue to argue that Bama wouldn’t slip to that level because of their proximity to talent. Alabama high school football is pretty good and they are also close to Florida, Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, etc. There is virtually no talent in Nebraska or the surrounding states. And because that program has slipped so much, Nebraska no longer recruits on a national level.
But Nebraska also has no legitimate competition in the BIG other than Ohio St. I don’t take the Michigans and Penn States of the world seriously. Alabama has to compete with Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Texas, A&M, Clemson, Florida St., etc.
If the perfect storm happens, Alabama’s program could fall. And if they are down for a decade or more, they may never come back.

Yes. Alabama was Nebraska in the mid 2000’s.

Well, dumbass, look at Nebraska.

Bet they don’t go 40 years without a NC. Not even Nebraska has done that.

Well, dumbass, the whole point of this thread is to determine if Alabama is capable of being nationally irrelevant for almost thirty years like Nebraska has been. That’s never happened to Bama in their history and may not be possible. The two programs are not the same.

Any program can fall on hard times. A good coach will have a hell of an easier time pulling Alabama out of the doldrums than Nebraska. Because Nebraska and all surrounding states are a barren wasteland for football recruits. Not so for Alabama.

Nope...too much talent stays in the south now

Alabama is located around the best high school players in the nation. Nebraska is located in a giant field.

Possible? Of course.
Probable? Not likely.
Quite honestly though, the college game is changing so much right now, who knows what any program will look like in 15 years.
I seriously doubt the SEC will be playing in a league with 100+ other teams by that point, and I'm betting there will be a whole lot more parity amongst those programs that are left standing, in whatever super-conference/division/grouping we're all in.

If you don't take Michigan seriously how can you possibly take LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Texas, A&M and Florida St. seriously?

Alabama never fell to the depths that Nebraska is currently in. They have not been to a bowl game in 7 years. They have not won a conference title in 24 years.

Is it possible that a school within 50 miles of elite baseball talent could be irrelevant for 30 years? Well yes.
Is it possible that a school within 50 miles of elite basketball talent could be horrendous for 40 years? Well yes.
Is it possible that a school within a state of elite football talent could come up short for 40 years? Well yes.
Anything's possible. If you think you have some good theory, then make an actual projection. Possibilities are endless.

Armed with this knowledge, what makes you think it could happen to Bama after Saban departs? Even 1997-2006 when Bama went thru four coaches, severe NCAA sanctions, and the national embarrassment of the Mike Price fiasco, they managed to win 10 games three times. While nothing is impossible, there is miniscule chance of Bama becoming nationally irrelevant for 25 years like Nebraska.

We won several conference championships and had numerous 10+ win seasons in that timeframe.

And right here is where it all went wrong. Right coach and Nebraska is back. That guy has a great chance of just getting hired. How long did it take Tennessee to do the so-called impossible? Nebraska is every bit the equal.
