Absolutely not. There’s too much talent around them to be down for long.

So Tennessee wins an irrelevant NY6 game and all of a sudden they are back? They didn’t win the SEC or national championship so they haven’t done shite.

No, as long as they as they do not join the B1G

Michigan State was IND and won MNC's. Went to the B1G and died
Penn State was IND and won MNC's. Went to the B1G and died
Nebraska was B8 / B12 and won MNC's. Went to the B1G and died

Go back and look at your history. Bama has won in every decade that's why they are the winningest football program in the SEC AND NO ONE IS CLOSE.

OP has to be one of the worst posters on this board.

Exactly, this could be a cool topic, but the OP is just a troll.

Even Bama has off decades.

Alabama football = Kentucky basketball. Will there eventually be down years? Yes. But they’re not going anywhere.

Every empire falls... there was a time that the populas thought the Roman empire would never fall. Ghenghis Kahn, the Persians, the Soviet Union...where are they now? In our history books.

Not likely; look at the distribution of D1 athletes and population growth. Demography is destiny.

Yes. Alabama was Nebraska in the mid 2000’s.

Alabama didn't go more than 2 consecutive seasons without 10 wins in the from 1997-2006 in the period between Stallings and Saban.

Alabama hasn't had a stretch of more than 5 seasons without 10+ wins since pre Bryant into his first couple of seasons.

Nebraska has gone 10 consecutive seasons without 10 wins.

Alabama was never at the level Nebraska is right now and they never will be.

You might get an extended period of time where Alabama is mostly mediocre with a few solid years mixed in for a decade or two but Alabama will never be Nebraska.

Too much local talent. Too many resources invested in the program for that to ever happen.

None of Alabama Georgia or LSU should be concerned about becoming "Nebraska" anytime in the next 30+ years.

Why is this how you choose to spend your time? Daydreaming about Alabama falling to Nebraska levels? Take a look in the mirror. It took half a lifetime for your program to become relevant again. It's fleeting so enjoy it while it lasts instead of wasting your energy on ruminations of the demise of others. It's pointless.

I think we have all come to the realization that Nebraska will never be a college football power again. But could that happen to Alabama? One would say no because Alabama is willing do dish out big bucks for the best coaches. And Alabama fans live and breathe for college football. But wait, so do Nebraska fans. And Nebraska fans are willing to dish out big bucks for coaches as well. They just haven’t been lucky enough to bet on a Nick Saban. But let’s say their luck runs out. Let’s say their next three coaching hires are busts. Could their program slip to Nebraska levels?

One would continue to argue that Bama wouldn’t slip to that level because of their proximity to talent. Alabama high school football is pretty good and they are also close to Florida, Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, etc. There is virtually no talent in Nebraska or the surrounding states. And because that program has slipped so much, Nebraska no longer recruits on a national level.

But Nebraska also has no legitimate competition in the BIG other than Ohio St. I don’t take the Michigans and Penn States of the world seriously. Alabama has to compete with Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Texas, A&M, Clemson, Florida St., etc.

If the perfect storm happens, Alabama’s program could fall. And if they are down for a decade or more, they may never come back.

It is more likely to be UGA than Alabama. Look no farther than Georgia Tech.

Anyone under 50 that went to that school doesn’t care about football.

Well, dumbass, the whole point of this thread is to determine if Alabama is capable of being nationally irrelevant for almost thirty years like Nebraska has been. That’s never happened to Bama in their history and may not be possible. The two programs are not the same.

Alabama's been playing football for over 100 years. Count the decades that they haven't had a nat'l champion during that time, THEN ask someone with an once of intelligence what they think about the answer.

But they did win a championship before they fell off. Why not the same for UGA?

Any program can fall on hard times. A good coach will have a hell of an easier time pulling Alabama out of the doldrums than Nebraska. Because Nebraska and all surrounding states are a barren wasteland for football recruits. Not so for Alabama.

We won a championship in 1980 before we “fell off.” Even though when we “fell off” we won multiple SEC Championships in that timeframe.
