Per sources, the following coaches “aren’t expected to return” to the Bulldogs’ staff in 2023: inside receivers coach Drew Hollingshead, outside receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr., running backs coach Jason Washington and defensive line coach Jeff Phelps.
Sources told FootballScoop that a pair of Mississippi State off-the-field staff members – associate athletics director for football administration Brittany Thackery and associate athletics director for player personnel Matt Dudek – also “are not expected” to be part of Arnett’s future staff plans.
Additional coach and staff changes remain possible.

Not good
Dude has zero experience as a head coach and is rebuilding the staff
Yikes

I don't hate it, some of the offensive guys on Leach's staff wouldn't be coaching anywhere if he wasn't the HC. Just hope Arnett hasn't made promises to old buddies who aren't qualified.

I was optimistic when they moved him up, then lost that optimism during the bowl, and now I’m starting to crap pants.

Do you think this is simply an indicator that he plans to change the offensive scheme, or a indictment against those particular coaches?

Maybe he is just trying to prove that he is not an "interim" guy trying to carry on Leach's system, and he is now the man in charge.

Reason would dictate probably a bit of both. I don't think he has any real care to run an air raid offense, most defensive coaches don't.

He didn't just walk through the door yesterday. If I was the HC and my success rested heavily on all the coaches on staff why wouldn't I want to bring in those that I thought would give me the best chance of achieving goals?

That would be a shitty reason to fire people and isn't indicative of a good manager.

Head coaches bring in their guys. It’s a business at the end of the day. He will bring in guys he trusts to help with the program. Different philosophies. I hope it works out.

Nah, Jason Washington is the only one I’m even a little concerned about, he’s a great recruiter and maybe retained from reports anyway. The rest suck or are replaceable.
Phelps particularly should have been fired a year ago. Mississippi State should never be as devoid of DL talent as we are right now. He can’t recruit and he can’t develop, Pickering’s development has been hugely disappointing and as mentioned the recruiting has not been good by our standards when it comes to DL.
Spurrier JR is apparently hated by a lot of his players and part of why Rara left. Also just ask SC fans about him. Dude get so overrated because of his last name.
Hollingshead is like a 28 year old first time coach and by all accounts seems okay.

If I were a State fan this would be promising IMO. Shows decisiveness.
An offense that heavily relied on a head coach's experience and idiosyncracies probably needs an overhaul after he is no longer around.
That seemed true yesterday. Leach wasn't there to draw up those one or two plays. Can't just replace an irreplaceable figure. Time for an overhaul.

Good point. Certainly difficult to replicate.

Might be a rookie HC mistake but he has every right to hire his own guys. He’d be smart to keep/hire veteran dudes who have been through the fire. Given the circumstances, hiring him was the right move at the time. We’ll know if he deserved and was ready for the job in a year or two.

What part of putting a staff in place that will fit whatever system he wants to run is a rookie mistake?

He'll be whistling a different tune when Kendal Briles is at the podium for his press conference.

Because we won a bowl against one of the best defenses in the nation after our coach died?
