With all the emotions swirling I’d take a look at a few coaches but if I didn’t feel great about them, I’d just promote someone on staff to be interim coach for a year. Can’t imagine a new coach walking into that locker room and being able to get through to the team

This. I just look at Kliff and want to punch him in the face. I don’t see that being a good fit at MSU
Kliff isn’t gonna bring his thot of the month out to Starkville, MS and have to deal with SECW defenses.

Bring Mullen back. Would love to see him back in Starkville.

think roll with Arnett for 2023 and then let the new AD reassess.
For recruiting purposes gotta give him a 3-4 year contract. But could get it with a low buyout as a bet hedge if it doesn’t work. Arnett could promote Steve Spurrier Jr from pass game coordinator to Offensive coordinator
It might work. Wouldn’t change the system. And Spurriers dad is a legend so he comes from good stock

Prime Time left the state to quickly for Colorado.

Dan Mullen has to be the first call, right?

Maybe Gary Patterson.
He'd be a stellar hire.

Promoting from within (at least for a year) might be the best thing for the locker room, and would probably be the fairest thing to the current coaching staff. If you hire an outsider right now, much of the current staff may lose their jobs because of something totally out of their control.
True. Maybe if there is a good coach interested the admin could feel him out on his willingness to keep the current staff before making the decision. I say let’s see how Arnett handles the bowl game. If he gets the team focused and we play well and calls a good game, frick it give him a shot

frick that. Rather roll the dice with Arnett.

He would be mine. Bring him back and let him finish what he started.

I think the solution is to name a member on staff as the interim coach. you give him a year to coach. This allows you time to heal, helps keep players on the team, and allows you time to get your AD situation under control. Your coaches arent scrambling to find jobs at the last minute

Was just gonna mention him. Dana Holgerson would be perfect at Miss State. Plus, I just want him in the SEC

They are already suffering enough.

Could be the best possible hire. I think he can retain staff and get a good Air Raid OC to let Rogers finish as college football's all time passing leader.
I would just promote Spurrier Jr. He was pass game coordinator this season. No staff changes and he could end up being great like his dad. He has spent 5 seasons under Leach with incredible results. You want stability you go with this option

My gut tells me we keep the staff together. Arnett goes to HC, Spurrier Jr to OC, etc.

Dan Mullen is the obvious choice, not trolling. I believe he did a great job at MSU and is available. I wonder how may bridges he burned in Starkville. With the opportunity at a second chance, he might appreciate it more.

Whatever you do, do NOT make an interim hire. It kills recruiting for this year and the next. That is hard to overcome at a place like MSU. Look what it got Arkansas. If the DC deserves it then roll with him but with a 4 year contract. Low salary and low buy out and then get good assistants to help him out, preferably someone with head coaching experience.
