Wonder who has been recruiting him the last few weeks

And so it begins...
And it won't be just good players from bad teams, a lot of good teams are going to get some surprises.

Kid is a stud. That's a huge loss if true

Sucks but this is the new reality.

Portal and transfer rules need major fixing. It’s becoming a Merc system. It’s NFL lite.
Am WE that pops off at a non-blue blood or even blue blood will get lured away by $$ every time.

Contracts seems to be the answer, here.
Get the NIL out of it and pay them. Set a cap and pay structure.
I hate it, but this is what happens when you open Pandora's Box.
"They" have taken what made this sport special, and slowly boxed everyone into accepting this as a professional league.
I'll be a fan until I'm not, and I'll hate it when that happens.

Supreme Court says that you can't do that.

I don't hate it. But I agree. Everyone saw this coming.
The solution is fixing the transfer rule. 1 season "sit-out" for all under-grad transfers.
If a player wants to leave, he/she can leave. They just can't play right away unless they have their diploma. It will make the diploma much more valuable ($$$).

Go back to the old rules and problem solved. No one worth NIL money is going to sit for a year just to get it.

Make it like European club soccer. Sign them to contracts and allow transfer fees. Would help finance non power 5 athletic budgets as well.

NIL would still be present (per Supreme court).
I don't know how enforceable transfer fees are in the US.
An employer cannot prevent someone from making a living. Transfer fees could be deemed unenforceable as their intent is clearly preventative.

Would this be considered anything different than a "trade" in baseball or football? Like restricted free agents?

Why not stipulate in NiL agreements that if you leave within a specified time you have to pay the money back? This happens all time when companies fund education/training on the front end of an engagement.

This.
Also, the NCAA HAS TO crack down on the tampering clause of their rules. With as fast as this announcement was made, you can't tell me that other teams haven't been in contact with Lovett...

Cant see this being an easy thing to do, especially when kids blow it all right away and may never get it back.
Personally if you make over X amount in NIL deals, transferring should be harder for that said player.

Baseball and NFL has anti-trust exemptions in congress. That doesn't exist for college.
Secondly, NIL is not run through the colleges. The universities only handle "reporting" compliance. So nothing can change the trajectory of NIL.
Third, discussions are entering the world of employer/employee relationships.
Age discrimination will stop college football from being college football (prepare for 40 year old Stetson Bennett competing as long as his legs will carry him).
I personally cannot see any scenario where an arrangement with a player extends beyond 1 season. And for that reason, I can't see "buyouts", "transfer fees", or "trades" ever being a thing.
