Question For AU Historians

I’m not sure… but I’m guessing it had something to do with seating capacity… at the time legion field had it… JHS didn’t.

UT first played in Cliff Hare in 1974, which Auburn won. The Vols had to run onto the field from the southeast tunnel, which was the student section. Students threw a few oranges at them. Shug was the coach and we won 21-0.

Auburn changed the visitors entrance tunnel soon thereafter.

1980 was the year UT and AU agreed to play home and home on a regular basis.

Tennessee's first visit to Tuscaloosa was in 1999.

2001: Reconfiguring the Locker Rooms and Restoring the End Zones

The capacity of Jordan-Hare Stadium actually increased by a relatively small amount, to 86,063, prior to the 2001 season, as Coach Tommy Tuberville ordered the locker rooms to be reconfigured. This operation moved the visitors’ locker room from underneath the South Stands to a new location in the northeast corner, giving the visitors a new tunnel from which to emerge onto the field. The home locker room was dramatically upgraded and expanded, and a new tunnel was added, allowing Auburn’s team to come onto the field from the center of the South Stands. A giant “AU” logo in the center of the home locker room floor was declared off-limits to foot traffic by that year’s seniors, and has been roped off ever since.

There was a story that came out of that GT thing, when we played them one season, I remember being in a parade in the band with the old chant from the day after that greased track instance, which Auburn started then way back then that went, "Wreck tech, wreck tech, wreck the hell outta Georgia Tech"

Last section of I-65 to be completed from Chicago to LA was the part north through Jefferson County. From Fultondale to just above Gardendale. Was a big FU to Alabama for George Wallace poking his finger at Washington a little too long and hard. Not that the section south of town through Hoover was much earlier.

Capacity is not the key.

Amenities matter. Every seat should be a chair with a cup holder.

Whether we have 75K or 100k does not matter.

Better seats and amenities like food and beverage should be the priority over more seats.

Aluminum bench seating needs to go.

I mean sure, but in order to have that and not lose some season ticket holders they'd have to expand at least a little.

They used to have double headers - Alabama and Auburn in two games against other power teams at Legion Field
