What were Gogue and Greene thinking? If we would've just hired Kiffin in 2020, we could be so good right now. He was interested in the job back then. I think we missed our chance with him

2020 was his first season at OM. I highly doubt he would’ve bolted yet again after a one year stint.

Is the thought he's more mature and a better coach now at OM than when he was at Tenn and USC(W)? Funny he's playing Bama this weekend with a better record than Saban this year but I think Bama wipes the floor with OM this weekend. I'm not sold on Kiffin's consistency (but I have been wrong before.)

They have played nobody except LSU and they bludgeoned Lane.

Hell, we had em peaking at their hole card until Lane pulled that onside kick BS

Bama is free money against Lane this weekend but I like the OVER even more!

Missing in 2013 and 2020 is what will lead to us hiring Jeff Grimes in 2022

I will never agree that hiring Gustav over Kirb was a poor choice.

The mistake was hiring Leath, then letting him “negotiate” Gustav’s extension in 2017. Those were both unforgivable unforced errors.

That was 10+ years ago now, man.

2014-2016 (OC at Bama): Elite
2017-2019 (FAU HC): Elite
2020-2022 (Ole Miss HC): Elite to date

There is no such thing as a guarantee, but you have ~8 years now of recent performance wherein he is performing as a top-level coach. Recent performance always trumps past performance, in anything.

I don't know why people criticize Kiffin's USC tenure. Guy actually got shafted. It's like people forget he was limited to like 55 scholarship players + 15 recruits per year.

USC avg some 9W/yr during his four seasons despite that being peak Oregon/Stanford with rising Washington

The end of his run was bad… they were a bad football team that wasn’t living up to the hype.

He deserves some credit for digging them out of the NCAA mess… but he also deserves blame for being shite at the end.

They had 55 scholarship players due to sanctions. There are interviews where Kiffin talks about not being able to tackle in practice because he couldn't afford injuries.

Despite that, the last Kiffin year they ended up winning 10 games with YawYaw. They probably win 11 if Kiffin is coaching

IIRC by 2013 the sanctions had dropped off and they were back to (or close to) full scholarship numbers… that’s what made the expectations high going into that season and why he got fired after starting out bad.
