Was Going for 2 One of the Gutsiest Calls in League History?

As a Louisiana sports fan this ranks up there with CSP onside kicking to open the half in Super Bowl 44. I couldn’t believe Kelly did that. Just glad it worked!

Not really. I would have gone for it as well. That's how you win ballgames that otherwise you were supposed to lose.

He knew he wasn’t supposed to be in position to win that game so took the gamble for shits

Finally, finally a coach said we have a chance to control this outcome and did something about it. Bravo to BK

I am in favor of winning a game as soon as possible.

He had a play and he knew it’d work. Ballsy? Yes but Kelly knew it was over.

it was the right call but don't make it out to be something it's not - BK was playing with house money

Not really. My first instinct was to kick, but our chances were poor in a second OT. Bama going second would have been an enormous advantage.
It was a pretty easy call actually

Les and Orgeron would’ve played a lot more conservative.

Not the gutsiest call ever but absolutely the right call even if it failed.
After Bama scored, I figured LSU would go for two if they scored. It was just the right decision but not gutsiest at all.

League history? Probably not. Get it or not it was the most practical choice. In fact I think it’s an automatic for any team in OT who gets the ball second

I called it. They had all the momentum and why go back and forth to wait on them to make a mistake. Even if they didn’t get it, it would still have been the right call.
Brian Grindin Kelly knew to play for the win and knew his players wanted it. They had Bama D on their toes with the mobile QB.
Hell of an execution of the play by the team and their youth. LSU might have just taken the reigns for the West for this season and some years to come.

He had momentum and the team was hitting on all cylinders, so why not. If he went to OT, he would have given the greatest coach in college football a chance to reorganize his team. Great call!

It’s the smart call. The percentage is the same of making a two point conversion as winning overtime. The two problems with this that most coaches are risk averse and would rather lose in overtime than face fan scrutiny for not “extending the game”. This leads to the second problem in which most fans are too stupid to understand percentages.

Kelly told Saban, "Hey Nick, frick the analytics, I'll show you when to go for two."
