Based on the AD search (no limitations) I believe/guess we will kick the tires on Dan Lanning. "Only" makes $4.6MM.
I wonder if he would leave?
I could see some hard no's or cold feet at throwing Kiffin 10 years and/or $10 MM. Also could see "not a fit for AU, blah, blah, blah"
Also could see some (like 1 or 2 stubborn jack asses) hard no's, just in general, at Freeze and Sanders.
Then you take your shots with Fickell, Stoops, or Lanning (guesses).

Lanning has a pretty big buyout, around $14M if I remember correctly.

The Oregon guys kind of worry me

Oregon is kind of in a mess with conference realignment. But with expanded playoffs it may be easier to get it not being in a good conference.

You don’t want Dilly Dilly back?

Lanning would be a very good hire. I could definitely see us kicking the tires on him if they're willing the pay the buyout.

That buyout makes him iffy at best. He'd have to really want to come to Auburn - foregoing a premium salary to compensate for the buyout.

No thanks. Stay away from oregon retreds

I'm fine with the consideration, but paying 14m to then pay a guy probably 7-8 mil who is really young and only has 8 games worth of HC experience seems...possibly unwise

Based on the offensive production Dilly doesn’t look to have been the problem.
Not an endorsement for him just commenting that his offense looks pretty damn good.

In the PAC-12…
But honestly, I didn’t think Dilly was bad at Auburn. Just think, he also had to use Gus’s playbook.

Also, everyone that has been associated with him seems to want him as part of their team - at age 32 or whatever.
Seems to use the youth and enthusiasm card well.

I stand corrected
he buyout UO would owe Lanning if he were fired before the end of the contract is 70% of his remaining base salary and will increase to 80% if Oregon wins 10 regular season games in any season during the contract. It is subject to mitigation.
Lanning’s buyout to leave UO is $14 million through Jan. 31, 2023, and decreases annually to $10 million, $7 million, $3 million, $2 million and $1 million, respectively.

Fickell is head and shoulders better than either one of those guys. The only thing that makes me not be all in on Fickell is he is a Midwesterner for life. If he had come up in the Southeast and was at a place like Memphis or Vandy, then he'd be perfect. I just don't know if he has the connections in this part of the country to recruit at the level needed. But he can flat coach football

I’m all in on Lanning. He checks all the boxes

Lanning has the right pedigree.

An excellent point. Would we feel more confident in him than Prime or Freeze? If you were to amortize a $14M buy-out over a 7 year contract, it would seem like we could make one of those two to say "yes" for less than $9 to $10M a year.
I think Oregon is an underrated job...played for a natty in 2010, made the first play-off in 2014, and not mathematically out of it this year (though they'll need a lot of help). Politically, there's only one major booster you have to keep happy, Uncle Phil, and he's got basically unlimited money...as the birthplace of The Swoosh, you'll always have great equipment and facilities.

His reps and Auburn have talked, per On3.

I wouldn’t hate lanning. Definitely more exciting than grimes and maybe one of the more motivated guys. Just seems kind of odd to pay a huge buyout for him given he hasn’t proven a ton. So maybe that’s being discussed? Idk. Interesting development. I could get behind it, plus he’s young
