Going to try to have a non troll thread but we’ll see.

I’m picking Alabama to win this game, though we have a bit more than a punchers chance which is incredible considering where this LSU team was even a few weeks ago. Brian Kelly has done an outstanding job here so far.

The offense has evolved significantly since the opener against Florida State. They’ve moved away from the slow developing play action game and started forcing defenses to chose between 1) Daniels outside run 2) counter or trap between the tackles 3) RPO slant or 4) Zone killer 15-20 yard passes between the safety and corner. All 4 options have been effective when defenses don’t respect them.

People have been saying okay we’re going to make Jayden beat us throwing, but the OL has improved enough in both run and pass coverage that teams can’t squat on us in coverage the way they were earlier in the year.

Jayden has been a slow starter but consistently improves as the game goes on, he was throwing absolute darts by the mid 2nd quarter the other night and has been responsible for 750 yards and 11 touchdowns the last 2 games.

The Wide Receiver room is excellent with 3 top end starters and several other solid contributors. The running backs are led by a former walk on who isn’t physically imposing but does everything with intensity and attention to detail.

Ultimately though you’re dealing with a team that’s starting two true freshman tackles, and while both have been as good as any freshman linemen we’ve had here going back 20 or 30 years, they’re still freshman and Alabama is going to have the advantage there.

Defensively the first player to talk about is another true freshman, Harold Perkins who has been extremely disruptive as a pass rusher and overall lifts the play of his teammates with the energy he brings. I try to avoid hyperbole but he’s the best freshman defender I’ve seen at LSU in a long time.

BJ Ojulari is the other elite pass rusher to be accounted for. The problem thus far is both he and Perkins play the same position in Matt House’s defense, and thus far they’ve been reluctant to play both at the same time as they feel it makes us light against the run. The front 7 overall has been very good though not yet as deep a room as they’d like at linebacker and Maason Smith, probably the best lineman on the team, was lost for the year against Florida State.

The secondary has been up and down and we’re badly exploited against Tennessee. This is another area I expect Alabama to be able to take advantage of though I wouldn’t call them bad per se, just inconsistent

Special Teams has been absolutely horrible most of the year. That they didn’t make a game jeopardizing mistake against Ole Miss is the most positive thing I can say about them. Muffed kicks, missed field goals, and poor return coverage have all been issues, though our punter has been good.

Overall I don’t expect LSU to be able to win this game, though just the thought that’s they might in year 1 of a full rebuild says a lot about the current trajectory of the program.

Regardless, it’s nice that the LSU-Alabama game means something again.

We need to keep Bryce Young from playing flag football out there. I like Perkins harassing him.

This Alabama team SHOULD be nearly unbeatable.

There’s absolutely no reason that they can’t be extremely aggressive rushing the passer to make it wildly difficult for any QB to find open receivers. Hell I don’t even think Koolaid and 7 will have trouble covering receivers given an aggressive DL.

And the safeties are good.

But if Alabama gets zero pressure LSU won’t have any issues building upon what they’ve built.

Alabama should be looking at scoring 30 points to secure every single game they play. But nothing I’ve seen tells me that is realistic.

I think Alabama wins a wildly stupid looking game at something like 37 to 34.

I wouldn’t be shocked if LSU won.

I don’t know enough about X’s and O’s to talk about them, though.

I know the one thing LSU cannot do is let Alabama get ahead but it just seems inevitable that we will spot our opponent a 10-17 point lead in the first half no matter what. LSU really has to focus on keeping Bryce's escapability in check which is a tall task. I have no idea how Daronte Jones of all people was able to draw up a defense to do that last year but I think it was because Ed finally gave up on his retarded strategy and let Daronte run the D on his own. If LSU lets Bryce do his thing early and gets down a few scores I don't see how we will come back.

For Alabama, they absolutely cannot play as sloppy as they did against Tennessee. LSU's receiver room is just as good as Tennessee's IMO and seems to be peaking at the right time. Bama cannot afford to let our receivers get open down field because Jayden will make them pay for it if he continues his play from the last few games.

Overall, I think for both teams it will come down to limiting mistakes and capitalizing when the other team commits one. While Bama will be more prepared for the crowd noise than Ole Miss was, Tiger Stadium will be at its peak come November 5th and could possibly play a factor in creating costly penalties. By the same token, LSU has to get its shite together on special teams big time. I don't know what to expect score wise other than the atmosphere on campus and in the stadium will be absolutely incredible and I can't wait. It feels good to be back.

Great analysis, really enjoyed the read. It has been impressive to watch your team improve week to week, clearly you have a good coach.

Will our team have the mental toughness to roll into Baton Rouge and grind out a tough road win? I honestly have no idea, but I know for a fact that our offensive coordinator will not exploit any weaknesses you have. Going to be a brawl, IMO, like many of our other games, decided in the 4th quarter.

My biggest concerns are can we stop the running game and stop blown coverages, tenn was able to take advantage of the blown coverages and just like tenn Alabama won't drop the passes when they are wide open.

How will our freshman tackles hold up against the Alabama pass rush, if our tackles can hold up we have a shot our wr can hold their own.

If we give up a big lead in first half i don't think we can play catch up.

Im happy where we are i honestly though we would have lost two more games by now so to even have a say in the west in November feels good. Excited to see where we go from here.

Hopefully we don't have a special teams f up lol

Alabama's corners are good enough to keep Daniels a little uncomfortable passing downfield. We're not good enough in the secondary to frustrate Bryce the same way.

I'll never pick against LSU at home on a Saturday night, but I don't feel good about this one.

I was told before the season this was Sabah's best roster with legitimate Heisman candidates on both sides of the ball. After Bama's rebuild year in 2021 and LSU finishing the year with thirtysomething scholarship players, this game shouldn't be close. The only reason they lost to UT was the refs.

Agree. I think the elation over seeing LSU gel and evolve while wonderful combined with Bama losing one game has LSU fans being pretty unrealistic about the game.

Bama is good all around and at the very least seems to match up with us well. That said LSU’s trajectory is pretty impressive. If the team has truly evolved then maybe a hard fought close game but by no means anywhere near a sure thing.

Under Miles/Orgeron, I always felt that both teams being on a bye before this game favored Bama because I knew Saban would take advantage of the extra time better than our coaches. I have more faith in our current staff to do their parts in preparing our team over the bye.

That said, I think LSU needs to play their best game and not get behind early to have any chance. We've been wearing teams down due to conditioning, but Bama is too deep and I have a feeling it will be our team breathing heavy in the 4th.

Regardless, very prod of this team and coaching staff for the improvement throughout the year.

The problem for my tigers is this, You can't get into an early hole down 14 or more points. This is bama and the defense is always good. If they go up on us, don't count on halftime adjustments to be the savior. It would be too late. If we keep it within one possession at half, we have a chance. I don't think we are there yet to beat Bama, but we are coming.

If I had to guess based on how we have played this year and how Alabama has been historically...this should be an absolute clusterf**k on special teams for both sides

If Bama didn’t have BY, I think we win. But Young is a total stud…

You had to say Xs and Os didn't you? Pete and Bill are clowns in this regard.

Should be a great game. Both teams will have to get the other's QB off his mark and both offenses will need to establish some rhythm.

Going to be some big hits, let's hope they let em play. Buckle those chin straps.

What kind of bizzaro world thread is this? Why is everyone being so nice to each other?

Nick Saban is afraid of sorority girls and Bryce Young orders extra slaw, no toast!

I think it's simple - Bama's ace in the hole is their QB. If Perkins and Ojulari can keep Bryce from singlehandedly beating us, I think it's a toss-up (mainly because it's on our turf).

Gibbs is faster and slipperier than most, but he's not better than Judkins. Shut down Bryce, make him mortal, and Gibbs won't beat us.

Their defense is good (as usual), but highly mobile QB's have always been Bama's Achilles heel. If our stud frosh tackles can keep the pocket somewhat clean I think Daniels will end up being the QB everyone is talking about after the game, not Bryce.

If there was ever a year where we have better than average odds of winning, it's this year.

And, honestly, it's better (and easier) to be the hunter than it is to be the hunted.

I think it's a contest of which Oline holds up the best. alabama's defense shuts the opposition down when they control the line of scrimmage. while we have some young guys this is the 9th game of the year so i expect our line to play well. I expect to see lots of Josh Williams since he's the best pass blocker of our backs.

so if our oline holds most of the time, which i expect they will, we'll move the ball.

and vice versa. both defenses will have their moments, and it will probably come down to which defense has more stops and/or turnovers.

of course i am expecting our QB to pick up where he left off after the last 2 weeks. it's a given that Bryce Young will be on his game if he has time.

You mean that they can't stop the pass rush?

From an Xs and Os standpoint, is there a defensive scheme that let's them both play without too much risk?

The secondary has been up and down and we’re badly exploited against Tennessee.

Isn't this worse when the offense plays tempo? What can we do about it?

I think Bama’s running game could be the difference. Jahmyr Gibbs is the best I’ve seen at Bama in a while.

Now will BOB actually run when needed (like instead of passing with under 1 min) is another story.

This thread is what this series should have been. These two teams have had commensurate talent, but it's felt like media golden boy Bama gets to win while lsu does some good thing every other year but can't consistently put it together.

But the frustration has been lack of coaching. We have a real coach now. Now we have the confidence as fans to expect more reasonable games, from our end, regarding preparation, adjustments, and general execution. Win or lose, we just wanted to put a product on the field reflective of our ability. Now, outcome be damned, it feels like we'll actually compete to our ability.
