Kentucky has always had a depth problem that Tennessee has not. Cats can look great pre season but if they lose a starer or 2, a 9-3 season or better can turn south in a hurry where they struggle to beat Missouri or Vanderbilt.
Heading into the Tennessee game, my question is on how healthy the 1st string is.

The depth chart looks as good as since opening day. Defensively, we've learned that Stoops finally has depth at all three levels. RBs, WRs, and TEs are good - with a drop off after Rodriguez made worse because the Professor ( Scaramanga) just figured out last week that McClain can run through contact. OL only has four starters even when everyone is healthy, and we only have one QB that gets worse the higher he gets in the mock draft.

It's a little weird. The worse he plays, the higher he moves up.

It's key for Kentucky to set the tempo and control time of possession to keep the defense fresh. Establish the run in the first half with CRod and then get Barian Brown some balls in space. The OC needs to open up the offense for this game and let Levis throw downfield several times each half. Whether conservative Stoops will let this happen is anyone's guess. The defense should be primed for a solid game with everyone back. This is the best defense Kentucky has had under Stoops and they need to play well for the Cats to win.

I don't see this as a good matchup for Kentucky. Will Levis very well could carve up Tennessee's secondary but it'll be harder to do it from his back in the ground. Kentucky's oline I garbage and I expect Tennessee will exploit that easily

Wasn’t much separation between the two teams in last year’s game. Their offense has hit another level but I think our secondary is much improved since then. Sucks we won’t have Jacquez Jones, probably our best coverage linebacker. While UK doesn’t get many sacks, I believe we’re top 3 in the SEC in QB pressures. So hopefully we can put Hooker into some uncomfortable situations.
Tenn DLine concerns me against our subpar OLine in the pass game. Gonna come down to if we can sustain long drives to shorten the game and keep the game in the 30s. Either way, we’ve been waiting on Levis to have that big game this year, it needs to be this week.
Looks like we’re getting ESPNs A-Team with Herbstreit, Fowler, and Rowe. Should be a fun game to watch.

Kentucky is more than respectable this year. The weather will help them too. They struggled mightily at Ole Miss though with procedural penalties, Neyland will make that sound like a HS game. I hope Kentucky doesn’t spread the field and persists with the pro style run attack. Stopping the run is the one thing our defense is actually great at.

Last years Kentucky team had better receivers and a good offensive line. I’m hoping that ends up being a problem on Saturday

We will be the best statistical defense UT has played against this season, and should be at full strength. UT is on a different level on offense, and it will take a huge effort to compete.
I'm "hoping" that we can "limit" the big plays and keep receivers in front of us to make UT have to go on long drives to score. Likewise, establishing a run game with Rodriguez will help with that as well.
I think UK is up for the challenge. The environment shouldn't really matter to any kid playing college ball. UT is really poor on the defensive side of the ball, but that damn offense...

I go back to the Georgia game in Athens in the 2nd half as Stoops testing long drives and keeping possession. Will see if this happens against Vols.

Im glad we are at home for this game.
Since Stoops has been at KY, this rivalry has be taken to a different level. Levis is a good QB and C-Rod has been a beast since he has been back. He is a good hard runner and will be a test for out defensive interior. If the Kats hold on the ball, this game will be good.
We have had a little bit of success, but we better not sleep on this team. Stoops will have them ready and I hope Heupel will have them ready.
Good touch on the Beer Barrel.

Agree. He did it last year to us at KY also. He did it with OM this year and was almost successful.

In addition to all of the fancy bells and whistles of the offense, Vols have won every game in the trenches so far.

I had no idea until this morning Kentucky has allowed the most sacks in tSEC (26 in 7 games) and over 21% of their offensive plays either end in a sack or negative yardage. I know UK has been without Rodriguez until recently but 113 YPG on the ground and 3.10 YPC has me scratching my head.
This seems like a recipe for disaster if UK wants to play ball control and avoid a shootout with VOLS. Everyone knows our secondary is not good but VOLS have one of the saltiest fronts in the country and IIRC have the highest pressure rate in the SEC
I have watched about 5 mins of Kentucky all season so this is really surprising to me

From listening to talk radio here in Lexington and perusing some UK message boards, it seems that Kentucky rarely blitzes. They prefer to sit back and play soft zone. That may help limit some of the chunk plays, but I think the Tennessee staff would be just fine with Kentucky deciding to only rush four for most of the game. The only defense to really effect Hooker this year was Pitt. They did that by being able to consistently get pressure on him. The Tennessee offensive line has greatly improved since week 2, so only rushing four wouldn’t seem like the best way for Brad White to go. There is a pathway for Kentucky to win, but they have to establish a running game and Levis can’t turn the ball over, which he is prone to do.

Our only hope to prevent that is to control the ball and keep them off the field. Big task for sure
Won't help. Control the ball all you want. If you can't score 40 or 50 points, you'll lose.
Every team we've played has said the same thing. CONTROL MUH BALL.
All won the TOP battle (except LSU). All lost.
Your only hope is for us to have a horrible game.
So, prayers I guess.
