I don’t know if Fickell would be considered a “big name”

Not really a big name - but he does have that "shock" factor (basically shocking both fanbases) some of our "insiders" were talking about

Nice hire, good at building solid programs, wouldn't mind honestly

Lane has to be considering an offer. If not, why wouldn’t he come out now and announce he’s staying? I can understand not addressing it before now, but after last night, if he’s staying, he’s needs to get that fan base back in.

Newest Neal update has a bunch of intel we have already gathered and pieced together:

quote:

As of Friday morning, everyone is waiting on Lane Kiffin. As of this morning, to our knowledge, Ole Miss’ contract extension offer is still sitting on the proverbial table, waiting for Kiffin’s signature or his ironclad verbal intention to sign it. I know some people insist that he closed the door on this last night, but trust us: Multiple, multiple sources on all sides do not share that sentiment at all.

As of this morning, per multiple sources, Auburn has not made an official offer to Kiffin, though the widespread belief is he is the Tigers’ top choice and knows he can have the offer with a request for it.

What’s the holdup? On Auburn’s end, it’s all about Carnell Williams. ESPN’s Chris Low, a longtime friend of mine, is in Tuscaloosa today, preparing for Saturday’s Iron Bowl game. He insists that Auburn is emphatic that it will not extend an offer to anyone — Kiffin or anyone else — until that 2:30 p.m. game has reached its conclusion. Jason Caldwell of Inside The Auburn Tigers wrote something similar this morning, saying “It has everything to do with showing respect to Cadillac Williams, the coaches and players and nothing do with waiting on a certain coach or coaches.”

He went on to say he does not “expect any news from the Auburn front today.”

As an aside, Auburn, a 22-point underdog Saturday, could be in quite a PR pickle if the Tigers pull the upset. Since Williams took over for Bryan Harsin, the Tigers have lost in overtime at Mississippi State and won at home versus Texas A&M and Western Kentucky. After each of the those games, even the loss, they’ve conducted cult-like revivals on the field. Imagine the scene if they pulled it off in Tuscaloosa. Would the pressure from fans and former players push John Cohen and Co. to make him the permanent coach? It’s unlikely, but crazier things…

That’s likely a bit frustrating to Ole Miss, which knows the last two weeks have done considerable damage to fan/booster morale. Kiffin wasn’t exactly contrite or fired up about the future last night. He literally couldn’t have handled that press conference much worse.

A source familiar with Kiffin said Kiffin would have no problem walking back his statements from last night and leaving. He said Kiffin likely feels he left himself some wiggle room. Neal’s thought here: Technically, I suppose, he did, but give me a break.

Ole Miss has to be thinking of its next step, and we believe that is certainly happening. Keith Carter and Glenn Boyce are smart people; they know if Kiffin leaves, they must be moving on his replacement immediately, if not sooner. However, as of this moment, Kiffin is the Rebels’ coach, and that is quite a set of handcuffs on a coaching search.

Wrapping up: We don’t see how this gets past Sunday without resolution."

Fickell absolutely would be a big name.

He was the favorite for the USC job last year before the surprised everyone and hired Riley.

Would y’all chill some. Nothing has changed. It is Lane Kiffin until it’s not. So relax and enjoy the ride.

Regardless of what happens it’s a win not to have the Hardashians associated with Auburn

Not really. Just optics. If we’re going to make an offer, I’m sure we’ve made all of the timing clear to Sexton.

Pretty Simple

Let Carnell make the announcement at game time. As he's telling the troops to look good for their next coach.

Fickell is a big name in my opinion too. But when I think of the phrase “big names” I think of who the casual fan would know e.g. Dabo, Kirby, Urban, etc. That’s all I meant.

I think Fickell is a fine coach. However him being hired would do nothing to make me feel like we went out and got the best coach for the position we are in.

I think Grimes is a good coach as well and would put Fickell on the same excitement level for me. Experience for Fickell being the only really plus out of those 2.

I’m sure others feel differently about that and that’s fine just where I’m currently at.

Kiffin
Freeze
Dabo
Prime

All are needle movers in my opinion. The rest would seem like we settled.

That’s what has me worried. If we win the Iron Bowl I hope there isn’t a big movement to hire Cadillac. I like him but he isn’t ready to be a head coach.

That would be the most Auburn thing to do, 2017 Gus says hi!

The loss last night didn't play well for Kiffin. He was obviously pinning Auburn and Ole Miss against each other. Both Auburn and Ole Miss gave final offers last night/early this morning. Auburn because of the hardball act Lane/Sexton have had, and Ole Miss because they view the distractions he ramped up as the reason for their bad end to the season.

Auburn's final offer is well north of Ole Miss's, but both are at a point where they might pull out.

I love how everyone here that were crying crocodile tears of joy after our 13-10 victory over A&M just let this sentence by Neal go.

Someone weirdly beat me to this.
