Honest assessment of your team after Week 1

I think the Gators are about what I was thinking they would be. I thought (hoped) we would give Utah a battle, but lose in a close game. I also thought we would be better running than passing, and that our front 7 is our weakest part.
I did not really like our play calling on 3rd down as it was very conservative with lots of passes behind the LOS on 3rd and medium or long. We seem to have trouble stretching the field and people are going to jam the box on us. This team is not up to championship standards but they can possibly make a little noise. I see a loss or two that we shouldn't have and a win or two that we shouldn't have, including Utah.

We are better than Mercer.

I expected a rough year but they looked so woefully prepared in every area. Disappointing to say the least.
The only thing promising were the hotties in the stands

Everything looked good, except the most important position. Which is a huge problem. Hope we figure it out at QB. If not we’re fricked.

Wasn’t expecting us to be as good as we were. Excited to see this team play, will be a fun year.
Also, LOL @ LSU

This team puts too much into end zone celebrations.
And they weren't that clever or creative either.
Luckily, there will be plenty of opportunities to improve.

State is the most improved team in the west. Rogers is making better decisions and its the deepest wr corp ever at State. Defense is better than even thought.

Happy to see that we aren’t afraid to air it out, but that can’t be at the expense of making dumb decisions with the football. Not sold on Haynes King at all.
Our OL run blocking was atrocious. Pass blocking was fine. Hopefully we get Bryce Foster back by Miami and get the run game going.
WR play has increased drastically. A couple of freshmen look like the real deal.
Defense looked stout against an FCS opponent as expected. Can’t really gather much from that.

We’re good. Probably better than most teams we play but not by much.

The narrative from the Nega-Dawgs was that the defense would take a step back. Didn't look like that vs Oregon.
And going with that same narrative, they said the offense would need to step up and be more explosive this season (there are problems with this narrative to begin with, but that's all in the past at this point). It is now apparent that the offense is indeed lethal, creative, deep, and explosive.
It's just Week 1, but the topic is Week 1 assessment. Can't really find anything to bitch about except the ACC refs that allowed Oregon to get a field goal.

The good
We took more downfield shots than any time in Jimbo’s time at A&M. The receivers look damn good.
The defense looks nasty. DL & DB are damn strong.
The bad
I’m worried about LB depth. They’re a step behind the other units. Cooper is pretty legit but White and Russel are not. Not sure who we have after that.
The ugly
The OL was flat out awful when it came to run blocking. Foster was out and Robinson was no where near 100%, but we should still be able to run on Sam. That has to be fixed ASAP.
King’s gunslinger mentality is a blessing and a curse. He threw some risky deep balls. It worked a few times (2 60+, 1 40+ Yarders) but he also had 2 picks and a couple more that could have been picks.

The Air Raid is clicking. States going to put up a lot of points.
States first team defense is elite. Big drop after that.

Our defense is better. But they had no where else to go but up. We need to shore up the safety position.
Offensive line absolutely blows and the offense looked out of sorts for most of the game.
WR Burden is a stud, but Cook most definitely is not. He is the worst starting QB in the SEC. Peat seems to be the real deal at RB.
Unless he dramatically improves, I don’t think Cook is the starter for much longer. We might be able to lean on our run game- if we do that and Cook can find a way to get Burden the ball…we might finish 7-5.

Your gators impressed me, and enjoyed watching AR-15. What a stud! You will win 11. One thing about Napier’s teams, they’re always focused and ready to play.

I still expect to lose at least 4 games. Our 2 deep is good enough but the chance of no one getting hurt (especially on the DL) is 0. And our offense has a lot more in common with Mullen then it does the Fun and Gun or Urban's spread so hopefully fans are patient.
