This is an unusual game in a few ways.

Florida has rarely opened the season with a top 10 opponent over the last 30+ years and Florida has rarely opened the season unranked over the past 30+ years.

With that said, Utah coming in as a 2.5 point favorite feels right. A team that has never played in an early September humid environment and a team that has never played in a stadium like the Swamp at night.

If Florida loses, their season could get off the rails early with a 1-3 start, but it feels like UF has more going for it than a typical unranked team taking on a top 10 opponent

That’s a very low number. Makes me think Florida will win straight up.

I was reading the Utah 247 board recently to see their thoughts on realignment and stumbled across some threads on Florida. It was odd to see how many of them think they walk in to Gainesville and come out with a win easily. I’m hoping you all prove them wrong.

You could argue Florida is the most unknown team in the country. If you go just based on last year, yeah they’re going to suck but obviously things can change fast. The defense should be much improved, oline should be strong, so basically everything falls on AR. Florida has zero depth behind him so if he gets hurt or struggles things might get tough. But UF will be a way more disciplined and physical team under Napier than they were with Mullen.

The Utes are strong. Should be a great game.

I’m sorry to say but Utah wins 31-21 or something like that.

Utah was a very young team and almost everyone comes back.

UF was a pretty bad team with awful management and while a lot of the team returns, not nearly as much as Utah. Not to mention the hump of a new coach in his first game.

Having spent my four years in Gainesville I will admit the heat absolutely sucks but it's not the gamechanger a lot of southerners think it is. Game is at, what, 7 p.m.? It'll be humid but not especially hot. They get Gatorade on their side, too.

I expect UF to lose to Utah by 7-10, but beat Kentucky. UT is more of a toss-up to me this year. A good coach can pull a team together after a loss to a big team, as Urban Meyer did after Bama shellacked the Gators in 2005.

If I were you, I would take the loss and move on to the next game.

I think the heat and humidity is going to stop them. If we were talking a November match up I'd probably lean towards Utah. I think Florida takes this one.

Not just because we play UF week 2, but this is one of the games I’m looking forward to the most just to see what Florida looks like against a good Utah team

I moved from Arizona to Gainesville in the summer. At the time I was training triathlons.

What I remember is that the transition was tough because it was so different. There just isn't any way Utah can simulate what Gainesville is going to be like.

If the Gators can hang in there I wouldn't rule them out in the fourth quarter when the Utes are drowning in sweat. If this game were in SLC I wouldn't give Florida much of a chance because Utah is really good. But the drastic climate change gives UF a chance.

Less than a FG spread for a #7 team vs a NR team tells you how dumb preseason rankings actually are.

Yeah. The players for Utah have never experienced temperatures above 75 degrees. They’re fricked lol. Dumbass

I may be biased against UF (okay... I'm almost certainly biased against UF)... but I really don't see much to be excited about on their team this year. I don't see many playmakers and I don't see much depth. They're relying on a QB who statistically wasn't very good last year to carry them.

While I do think the location matters, I just don't see UF being very good. And given that, I expect them to lose here. It feels like for UF to win, Utah would have to make mistakes and lose the game. I think they're flat out better overall.

Florida returns 3 OL and brought in a 1st team All American to join them. We have a really solid RB room. Everyone but biased Georgia fans see that Anthony Richardson is very talented, albeit injury prone.

This team should probably be Top 25. The schedule is pretty ridiculous this year with Utah, Georgia, and a road trip to Texas A&M with tough matchups against Kentucky and at Tennessee, so most Gator fans are reasonably expecting a mediocre 7-8 win season.
