I think Reggie White is the best football player to ever live myself from any conference.

Yes, Bo & Hershel were great but the game starts in the trenches.

Herschel did in 3 years what Bo couldn’t do in 4. Enough said.

And he's also a complete frickin' helmet head. It won't be long before he needs a drool cup.

I can’t. But Cam Newton did it in a more impressive manner than Herschel.

The SEC wasn't very good in 1980, with four of 10 teams ranking outside of the top 50. Plus, six-game conference schedules meant that you might miss a couple of the better teams in your given conference. Of the five best non-UGA teams in this relatively watered-down SEC, the Dawgs played just two, missing No. 5 Alabama, No. 22 Mississippi State, and No. 42 LSU.

This was a crazy year that featured phenomenal teams playing brutal schedules; I don't included SOS rankings in these tables, but Penn State ranked first in SOS, Florida State second, USC fifth, Pitt ninth, and Nebraska 17th.

Because a) there was no playoff, and b) Georgia didn't lose, none of these great teams finished as champion. College football seasons used to be so ... incomplete.

I take Bo over Herschel.

Herschel
Never lost an SEC game
3 SEC Championships
1 National Championship
Heisman (should have had two)

Bo
1 SEC Championship
Heisman

Bo had the better supporting cast than Herschel had as well and still didn't measure up.

Great, then he’ll fit right in with many other Republican Senators.

You seem to already need one with your dumb arse comment about SEC QB's (and forgot Georgia had one who just won the most recent Super Bowl). It appears you might be a Georgia hater, which is maybe your one redeeming quality.

You think the other 2 clods in the US Senate from Georgia have any redeemable qualities? A preacher and a rich kid from Atlanta who is a "journalist."

Did Auburn and Georgia play that year? Where was it at? Who won? That could be a good determination.

Without this...

Y'all wouldn't have won it in 1980, even with Herschel Walker.
This past season would have been your first natty for the program.

This is so silly. Football is the ultimate team sport. Unless you're playing QB, saying he's not the greatest simply because he didn't win a national title is just ignorant. He did lead them to an 11-1 season in 1983, won the SEC, won the Sugar Bowl, and finished #3. Their lone loss was in week 2 to Texas, who ended up losing their only game to Georgia in the Cotton Bowl. Miami was voted #1 at the end of the year but also finished 11-1, their loss being to Florida in week 1, Florida who finished the year 9-2-1. Auburn would go on to beat that same Florida team (ranked #5 when they beat them), #7 Maryland, #4 UGA, #19 Alabama, and #8 Michigan in the Sugar Bowl in consecutive games to close out the season. I'd say Auburn was "in position" that year but didn't have the favor of the voters. 5 teams finished that season with 1 loss.

Georgia's 1980 run, by comparison, was a cake walk. They beat one team who was ranked by season's end, #9/10 Notre Dame. In Herschel's Heisman season, he failed to "put the team on his back to carry them" to a win against Penn St for a national title. They lost the Sugar Bowl that year to finish #4.
