Sounds like agent was dirty as hell by that statement from Florida

Just read the agents comments and you can see it is very personal for him. So I actually believe the Gator collective on this.

I could give two shits what josh pate has to say. You should be proud of your university for having enough intelligence not to pay an unproven 17 year 10 million dollars.

I never ceased to be amazed at how many southern football fans hate capitalism, the free market and America.

My god what have we done. Even the nfl has rules and they enforce them. This is straight up admitting to bidding on players that aren’t currently enrolled.

How do you fix any of this though? The NFL doesn’t limit endorsement money either. The primary problem is that the only method of payment is through endorsements. If schools could directly pay players it might limit some of these issued. The problem after that is that schools have to recruit to get players while the NFL has a draft. How do you handle recruiting in an era where players can get endorsement money? I don’t actually think you can. Recruiting is the reason this has turned into a shitshow and that it will get worse and worse until the system implodes.

I agree thatit is just going to keep going.

The "salaries" of these players will just keep going higher, especially the qbs.

Just found out this morning the state of SC is planning on repealing all state regulations regarding NIL and leave it up to our schools to do as we please since the NIL "oversight committee" has said it is basically up to each state to regulate.

ETA: Would that make SC the only SEC state without laws regulating the use of NIL? I seriously don't know.

Pretty sure Louisiana and Florida are more or less wide open. Georgia can be/will be of Kirby thinks it plays to his advantage (we basically run the state legislature in that regard).

In response to some of the chicken littles on this thread, I think it’s important to remember that Florida, Miami, Tennessee, and A&M aren’t every school. Georgia and Bama, for example, seem to be placing more of their NIL focus on retaining guys already on roster rather than setting unsustainable standards for recruits coming in (which creates compression issues with your guys already there).

From what I’ve been told/read, we’ve only broken the 7 figure mark in NIL offerings for a small handful of recruits, whereas most are getting offered something reasonable up front with the promise of future earnings while in school - which admittedly we can do because of our proven draft development and national relevance in the CFP picture (I get the sense Bama is doing something similar).

All to say the publicity is being drawn to the schools and recruits who are commanding and offering these absurd sums but that doesn’t necessarily set the market; a majority of schools aren’t doing it that way. Still a lot that has to play out in locker rooms and on the field in what is only year 2 of NIL to determine whether this will be naturally reigned in as strategies fail or if artificial guardrails are going to be required to restore some competitive equality to the system.

lol Florida never offered him anything near 11 million and his deal is actually much lower supposedly. Miami did overpay for him though.

Competition is good for business. Monopolies are not.

I see the problem coming with NIL. Let’s face facts, though. The NIL is going to be a huge deal for all of the SEC schools because there is no better product placement than in the premier college football conference.

Within the SEC, it may actually increase parity because it could function to reduce depth. For instance, perhaps the kid who signs with Bama expecting to be a backup in year 1 gets more money to be a starter at Tennessee because the product is not visible as a backup but it has high visibility in a starter. That’s going to be a likely effect. As much as boosters like to think they’ll be able to buy players, the private sector ROI is going to win out.

Kids will have to balance between immediate monetary gratification, where their heart lies, and how their decision might impact their NFL potential.

Let’s face it, though. When there are large sums at play, the immediate payout is going to win out for most kids that don’t come from wealthy families.

The problem is certain mega rich boosters could care less at this point if the NIL deal makes no financial sense.

Way back in the day (70s-80s) UF was the red-headed stepchild of the SEC. They tried so hard to cheat like Bama did, but they just couldn't get away with it because they weren't SEC royalty. They were always on probation or about to go on probation because they had Charlie Pell and Doug Dickey and not Bear Bryant. Not until Spurrieor came did they actually win an SEC championship. Ironically, he was clean on the recruiting trail even if he was deadly with those verbal penknives he used to wield. Me thinks the Bull Gators are sliding back into 1970s mode.

There will be some delicious schadenfreude in 3-4 years when these same parents try to swing that shite at the NFL draft.

Global capitalism creates monopolies. Which is the exact opposite of free market competitive capitalism. Global capitalism, which you apparently love, is in the business of creating fascist or communist states by eliminating small business and the middle class. Which is exactly what is going on currently in all western states. In agricultural less developed countries its communism. More developed states it ends in something that looks like fascism.
