That's how woke ESPN is. He's their token white Southerner, a transparent attempt to try to placate this entire region that ESPN has pissed off with their bullshite. Surprised Marty didn't ask the players whether they preferred cornbread or biscuits.

I always found pairing him and Ryan McGee to be ironic, seeing as McGee is from NC and went to Tennessee and naturally comes across as a pretty typical Southerner whereas Marty is from VA and went to Radford and embodies exactly what you’d think a quasi-Southern state like VA would think a Southerner might be

Guys, his accent is legit. He's from the Blue Ridge of SW VA.for Christ sake. Have any of you guys ever been there? Place is more Southern than most places in the deep South.

Yep. Accent is genuine.
That pocket of central Appalachia in VA, WV, KY, TN, NC has some of the thickest southern accents I've ever heard. Marty is from there and sounds just like everyone I know from there.
