The numbers had started trending down before the pandemic. This has been an issue for close to 10 years now.

Overall costs to go to games, tailgate, etc. have increased but there are still more people packing into SEC towns just to tailgate and not go to the game. With the crowds, traffic, and parking it is easier to just watch at home. But I am getting old.

LOL at the fans crying about the playoff and only a few teams with a shot at winning it. The fans WANTED the playoff and there has always been only 10-12 schools with a chance to win a national title. The Aub fans are the only ones crying about the parity on this thread because they suck and UGA and Bama are dominant right now. You would not have heard this circa 2004 or 2010. Fans are fickle and they may be the worst.

When Auburn fans start killing their kids, sexually assaulting drunks in Krystal’s, poisoning 100 year old trees in the dead of night, get back with me.

DWRRS was rocking every game but Auburn last year. (Auburn wasn't even because we lost. Was weird from the beginning)

Yeah, it's got nothing to do with ticket prices, crowds, lines, fights, being able to watch a bunch of different games on a big screen at home, etc... It's all about dissatisfaction with the playoff process.

But they keep taking their money and giving them control so they can make the television experience better. You can't fix stupid.

All the whining about NIL “ruining things” is conjecture.

This is about costs. Ticket prices, especially on the aftermarket, are way too high. I know people who have gone to games for years who still go, but go to less games. When I ask “why aren’t you going this week?”, their answer is always about ticket prices. You can’t get into a UGA game against a power 5 school this year for less than $118 on StubHub right now. Multiple games cost minimum 250 to get into the stadium.

I’ll fully admit I’m part of the problem. I bought multiple tickets at stupid prices last year. Until people like me stop paying that money, the prices will keep inflating and it’s pricing out a lot of people, especially those that live 100+ miles away from their favorite teams and were already bending over backwards to make games on a regular basis before the prices got sky-high.

Factor in the TV coverage getting better by the year and the fact that literally every football game is being video broadcast somewhere, and you have a recipe for attendance declines. It’s honestly surprising the decline hasn’t been steeper. Shows how much the sport is ingrained into the culture.

He’s got a point. I’m not going to sit in 100 degree heat to watch my team blow out a cupcake, but if it’s an SEC matchup I’m not missing it. I also travel to an away game every year. Technology and HD TV had a major influence on how we watch sports. Also now every team gets televised through an ESPN or Fox Sports app.

Pretty much nails it. I live in the B/CS area and I probably only average 1 game a year in Kyle field. Too easy to stay at home and watch it while bbqing or hanging out at a tailgate the entire time, especially if it’s not a good opponent.

Data is now showing that the under 30 crowd doesn’t watch live sports or attend sporting events much. Big changes are on the way now with younger generations.

Aftermarket prices for most Bama games are below face value. The only ones that aren’t are the big games. There were a few games this past season where people couldn’t give their tickets away. It’s been that way for 10 years now. I shake my head at my friends that still buy season tickets, then only go to a couple of games and end up eating their tickets for the other games.

This is what I’m referring to though. This is the other side of the issue.

Games are either cupcakes that no one wants to go to or too expensive for many to go to.

Right now on StubHub, to illustrate (get-in prices):
Kent State - $74
Auburn - $219

No one wants to go to the Kent State game and many people won’t or can’t pay $219 a head for the Auburn game. Especially not for nosebleed seats.

And especially not if they live in South Georgia and already have to drive two-plus hours when they could go a mile down the road to a watch party with their cousin or something.

I’m not a recruiting junkie so some of these specifics may be incorrect but the general point is the same.

On early signing day Auburn had the 5th best class in the SEC.

5th sounds pretty good and competitive.

However, TAMU, UGA, and Bama each had over 20 recruits rated better than Auburn’s best recruit.

And again Auburn was 5th so most SEC schools did worse.

The concentration of talent to only a few schools has hurt the game for the other 99% of fans.

I mean what did they think was going to happen? The concentration of talent to only a few teams as a result of the 4-team playoff ruined the sport. They killed the golden goose. I’m only still interested because it’s a bad habit I can’t break.

Yep. Plan on fishing and hunting more in the future.

I didn't miss a UGA home game from 1984-2012. After I cameback from grad school in I picked right up again 2015-2018. After we lost the tickets I honestly don't miss all the issues that came with going evey game. I have been back to Sanford for 2 games in 3 seasons and neither of them were huge games. I went to take my oldest nephew.

Cost to value flipped for watching games at the stadiums, especially if you factor in travel.

Other than the actual time spent watching the game, the rest of the experience is painful, tedious, and significantly overpriced. They could give the tickets away and the rest of the expenses would still exceed most fans budgets.

Does not know definition of fickle. Quit being mad because your program is historically average by SEC standards and is currently trash. Cope on if it makes your feel better.

Sounds like your team's staff needs to recruit better.

Ticket prices have shot up and huge TVs have come down in price. Many fans would rather enjoy a game in the comfort of their own home, watching with their friends/family. This trend will only get worse for attendance.

Guilty.

Grew up in a family with Florida season tickets. My grandparents had a MotorHome what we traveled to Gainesville every home game for spent the weekends there and its great memories.

Then i went to OM and went to everything i could during my 6 years there.

Now i live outside of Atl and have three kids. While i do enjoy heading back to Oxford (made the Liberty game this past season) It just isnt worth it to me. I live too far away to make too many games. I end up watching it with friends and family on my 70 inch in HD while grilling out and drinking beer that averages $2 a beer instead of $8.

Its a no brainer for me
