I know we're all just living in the moment with the newfound sustained success Auburn is having under Bruce, but I was just thinking about what it means after him. He has made the job at least 10x more attractive than it was.

- proven AU fans can be rabid basketball fans
- proven Auburn Arena is among the best environments in all of college basketball
- proven you can recruit to Auburn
- proven you can win at Auburn

I think when he decides to wrap up his career, he'll have a hand in picking his predecessor to carry on what he built, but I guess my ultimate point is he has set AU up to pull a top tier coach when he's gone.

We owe that man a lot as basketball fans.

I bet our next coach is on staff if Bruce has anything to say in it. And he should.

He is a natty away from being an all time AU coach in any sport. Auburn has built in advantages (revenue through football, proximity to Atlanta, etc.) Bruce is showing how to tap those resources. He should be an example moving forward that we need to constantly invest in our infrastructure and programs.

We have an undefeated coach on staff, that I believe deserves the opportunity. 8 Years at Auburn, played the game in the SEC, learned from the GOAT. When Bruce retires in 10 years, you have to give him a chance to sustain.

I wish he would take a UAB type job so we can see how he coaches without Bruce

Hopefully we have 5-6 more seasons with Bruce before this needs to happen. Good playoff runs each season will help alot!

I agree. And it also makes all the interim things (not Final Four or titles) meaningful too.

Getting a #1 ranking or a sustained high ranking, being a #1 seed potentially, making sweet 16s or elite 8s...

This year will be hard to stomach if we don't make a fairly deep run, but all of that stuff counts and is beneficial to building the AU resume in the long game (trying to make AU a sustainable top program post-Bruce).

When Bruce took the job many pundits questioned if Auburn fans would even support the basketball program

Well that’s been answered in spades and the design of our arena has proven to be genius. You are right to say the job is an order of magnitude more attractive now than a decade ago.

I don’t care who Bruce picks but I prefer the succession to be outlined similarly to how Coach K orchestrated his.

I was in school when it was approved and remember questioning the size vs. how much we were paying. Turned out to be genius. Guess that ultimately was Jacobs?

Auburn will always get behind Auburn no matter the sport, we just like to see competitive teams.

AU was rockin softball when Coach Meyers was here

I Don't see PEarl coaching past 70, but could be wrong.

One thought, if he interested is to stay on as an advisor, and move Steven Pearl up as HC, as long as Pearl is a major help with his team.

Kinda like Kiffen did with his Dad, and other coaches have done with their son assistants.

If Pearl retires period at any time, I do not want Steven Pearl to cut his teeth on an already established basketball program. I want an experienced top level basketball coach to take over for Pearl. Period.

This is probably the plan, but I hope he cuts his teeth at a smaller school first.

It was a while ago now but last time Pearl was asked if he wanted to be a head coach one day he said “nah, I’m single and making six figures and have very little stress.”
