Stetson Bennett IV is playing in the natty

Most people on here probably hadn’t heard of him until last year, but for Georgia fans he’s a guy who has been well known since 2016 when he committed as a PWO. Simply because of his country club name. No one thought he’d play a snap.

Next in 2017, he was known as the little guy who was emulating Baker Mayfield on the scout team. All the practice reports would say stuff like, “He doesn’t have a great arm, but he’s a nice little player and could probably start for an FCS team.”. Once again, never would take a snap at UGA.

In 2018 he transferred to a JUCO and then transfered back to UGA on scholarship at the end of the year. Most of us thought it was a waste of a scholly, but his recruiting picture made it worth it. Not everyone’s 3rd string QB looks like Uncle Rico.



In 2019, he backed up Jake Fromm. The consensus among UGA fans was that of Fromm got hurt we were completely screwed. Played well against cupcake teams, but who cares? Next year he’ll be buried on the depth chart.

In 2020, he came in as the 4th string QB and after a series of injuries, opt outs, and shitty QB play he found himself as the starter. Had good games and bad games, ended up losing his job. And for like the 8th time we all thought that was the last we’d see of him.

In 2021 he comes in 3rd string, hops Carson Beck and takes over for the injured JT Daniels. Once again, everyone is thinking “ok, he’ll start 2-3 games then JT will be back”. But the guy just sticks around.

Now it’s 2022 and he’s about to start in the National championship game coming off a 342 yard, 3 TD performance In the orange bowl.

I guess I always thought JT would just take back over, but it’s finally hitting me that this dude is actually starting in the National championship game. I mean for almost 4 years he was just the short guy on the team with the funny name. Dude just won’t go away, for better or worse.
