Anybody of a certain age on this board will remember getting sports illustrated in your mailbox every week and reading it cover to cover. Crazy to think that now SI is an obscure sports news player. Anyway I'm going to link an SI article on Stet. It's a lot of the same-ol but a couple new details.
Seem like Stet has been in my consciousness forever. Forever ago he was a scout team legend. Jeff Danzler was constantly mentioning 'Stet the Jet' on the radio. He was an intriguing background player.
He gets a couple real snaps and looks like crap and I'm thinking, 'yeah...practice squiad legend'
He transfers. I forget about him. He transfers back. I think 'oh, that's sweet'. The QB debacle of 20 develops and sure enough Stet comes in and saves our arse in Arky and proves maybe there is some there there afterall.
And suddenly this scout team curiousity is right there in my face. I am thinking about him and reading about him and taliking about him all the time. He is QB1 at the University of fricking Georgia!! At a time when it has become a football juggernaut.
Listen yall. I've been going to games at sanford since 1975. I have seen every single kind of QB there is. Everything from a Ray Goff bull moose(that was my childhood hero) to a 'bless-his-heart' Greg Talley to an all world modern talent like Matt Stafford
Now we got this situation where the QBs 'story' has taken on a life of its own. It really is a good story. A 'Rudy' on steroids kind of story where Rudy could actually turn into a major contributor to a magical year.
And here's my bottom line. We have become so desperate for a championship that we are willing to throw this kid under the bus, and maybe Kirby with him, cause he aint our ideal QB. This kid with a hollywood backstory may actually lead us to a national championship - his dream come true and ours too. And yet in order to make it happen he has to block out all of his own 'fans' negativity!! It's fricking ridiculous.
This here is something weird and dangerous and uncomfortable and magical unfolding right underneath us - right amongst us. I myself am going to quit lusting after Paulina Porizkova and throw in my chips with the girl next door.
Let's embrace this moment yall. Let's embrace this kid. Let's jump on this bull named Fu Manchu and see what happens.
And if 'IT' does happen we can look at ourselves in the mirror and say 'I knew it all along'. If IT doesn't, then let's not act like a bunch of idiots so this kid ends up with bitter feelings about us and uga.
We just pounded one historical college football titan and we are about to tee it off with another. It may end in heartbreak but we are Elite RIGHT NOW and I love it.

Hell yeah, I'm ready to run through a brick wall after reading that. Good shite.

You can tell a lot about the character of a person who mocks and condescends to a person like the one in the article.

That was awesome . Thanks for linking. What a n unbelievable path this man has been on
Especially like how he handled the scholarship offer when UGA said they needed an immediate answer.

Good write up. I've been a fan of Bennett ever since his freshman G Game performance. He outplayed Fromm that day.

Many blanks filled in
Q: have you ever seen Kirby treat a qb the way he does Stet when frickery occurs
I don’t know. Maybe it’s a sign of respect that Stet can take it. But can anyone cite a similar Kirbs psycho melt on fragiles Like Eason JT or fields?

Kirby railed Fromm often. Other than Stet, he's the only one I can think of.

After the 4th and 9 fake punt debacle vs Bama in the ‘18 SECG maybe?

And the swimsuit issue used to be a significant cultural event; now it's barely noticed.

Yup. That's my immediate (and positive) association whenever I see SI

Helluva post, miledawg. I planned on driving to Indy but now I'll be running through brick walls all the way there.

Was not aware that Bennett had completed his 6th TD pass of 50+ this season, which was the most since AM in 2012. Nice.

Stet is Monken’s QB
You can also tell that Monken prefers QBs with escapability over guys with big arms that stand in the pocket. Stetson has ran his system well. I imagine he will be back next year as well. Will be nice to have a returning QB for once with proven ability. He's a good ball player. I imagine guys in the future we recruit will also be dual-threat.
