Anyone here buy into the Rose Bowl hype?

In the era of the BCS and CFP, to me that has become just another game. I know ESPN hypes it up like there’s nothing that compares, but I don’t see it.

They make everything difficult for everyone else. No one outside of the old people care about it.

They really diminished themselves by not being part of the playoff. They chose irrelevancy.
ETA: my dumb arse forgot Bama was in the rose bowl (Dallas) last year

TBH I dislike USC but I will always watch the Rose Bowl if they’re in it lol.
Something about them being in it makes it feel more prestigious IDK.

Rose Bowl has been shitty and irrelevant for close to 4 decades. Go look at the matchups from the 80's-00's. A lot of 8-3 conference champions in there from both conferences. UCLA actually went 6-4-1 in 1983, and they actually beat #3 10-1 Illinois 45-9.

Yeah, nothing against the Utes but the PAC 12 sucking probably impacts my opinion. And then most years you don’t get the best Big Ten team either. So the game is a shell of itself.

Growing up I always referred to it as the sissy bowl.

Rose Bowl is the scenic goat. Other than that who cares

They have to hype it. Isn’t it the oldest bowl game? Not being part of the playoff, they are desperately trying to keep the mystique alive.

I bought into the Michigan hype, but that's it...I think.

Sure, when they host a semifinal.

It is still the Rose Bowl. It is still a huge bowl game.
But... College football isn't the PAC whatever number vs the Big whatever number anymore. It isn't a de factor national title game like it was for many seasons. It is just a big bowl game now.
They are trying to fake it till they make it pretending otherwise.

Couldn’t tell you who played in last year’s Rose Bowl without looking it up. It’s right up there with Danny’s Discount Feed Bowl in importance.

You must have never attended a Rose Bowl game. There's nothing like it.
However, in light of Covid restrictions and changes in the bowl system, etc., the old bowl traditions have all lost some of their lustre, including the Rose.
But, the Rose is still head & shoulders above every other bowl game. Not even close.

The Rose Bowl was a CFP Semifinal last season and will be one again for the 2023 season.
